📄 Why Your Original DBS Certificate Matters

If you're a nanny, one of the most important documents you own is your original DBS certificate.
Many people assume that being registered with the DBS Update Service is enough—but it isn't.

Here's why...
✅ Your original DBS certificate shows everything that was recorded at the time your DBS check was issued.
✅ The DBS Update Service only tells employers whether anything has changed since that certificate was printed.
It does not display the information that appeared on your original certificate.

This is why families and nanny agencies will often ask to see both:
📄 Your original DBS certificate
🔄 Your active DBS Update Service status

⚠️ Remember: If you lose your original DBS certificate, you cannot request a replacement. You'll usually need to apply for a brand new DBS check.

💡 Top Tip: Keep your original certificate in a safe place and ensure your DBS Update Service subscription remains active. Having both gives families confidence and helps make the recruitment process much smoother.
