Lockyer House: A Tenerife Home with Serene Internal Garden
For Shaun Lockyer, this home took a long time to come together, first imagined years before it became reality.
Designed as a downsizer for Shaun and his family, the house is compact but carefully crafted around a central courtyard, bringing landscape, light and greenery into the heart of the home. Just 500 metres from Brisbane’s inner city, Shaun describes it as a green sanctuary.
Throughout the house, architecture, art and personal collections come together, with references to designers and architects who have influenced Shaun’s work over the years.
The home is filled with moments of surprise: a dramatic double-height entrance, a living pavilion that opens completely to the garden, and a serene retreat designed for meditation, stretching and yoga.
For Shaun, the house represents the opportunity to create something once, and do it as well as possible.
