AI in hiring: what candidates and employers need to know 🤖
AI is now part of many recruitment processes. Used well, it's a helpful tool. Used badly, it creates risk on both sides.
Generally fine ✅ :
AI summarising applications, with a human making the call.
AI highlighting relevant experience using fair criteria.
AI-assisted shortlisting that recruiters can challenge.
Needs extra safeguards ⚠️ :
Auto-rejections with no human review.
AI rankings accepted without question.
No one able to explain why a candidate was screened in or out.
Candidates have rights when significant decisions are automated. Employers have a duty to keep things fair, transparent and accountable.
And the human side still matters. Communication, adaptability, potential ARE the qualities that make a great hire rarely show up in a keyword scan.
