Happy Friday from the Signature team 💜

It’s World Smile Day, so we thought we’d share a few of the things that make us smile in the office.

From good coffee and team lunches to great conversations, shared laughs and celebrating wins together, it’s often the little things that brighten the week.

We’re also lucky to spend our days supporting brilliant clients and candidates, and that’s something that always gives us a reason to smile.

A big weekend for Team Signature 💜

Two members of the team took on two brilliant London challenges this weekend, Sez took on the Shine Night Walk and Pauline faced the Saucony Run Shoreditch Half.

A huge congratulations to them both for clocking up the miles and completing their challenges. Very well deserved medals and hopefully a bit of recovery time today! 👏

What actually happens after you hit Apply? 👀

First, a recruiter checks whether you meet the essentials. Then they look for clear evidence that your experience matches the role. The strongest applications are compared against the brief before a shortlist goes to the hiring manager.

No response doesn’t always mean you were a bad candidate, sometimes another applicant was simply a closer match. Make your relevant experience easy to spot.

Stuck getting poor answers from AI? One of the easiest fixes is to ask AI to improve your question first.

Google’s recent UK research found that only a minority of AI users had asked AI to help them write a better prompt.

Rather than starting again from scratch, try asking:

“Can you improve this prompt so I get a more useful and specific answer?”

“What information am I missing?”

“Rewrite this so the response is more practical and less generic.”

You don’t need specialist AI knowledge to do this.

Sometimes the quickest way to get a better answer is simply to improve the question.

Flashback to a brilliant summer evening with the Signature team and our clients. ☀️

First things first: pizza. 🍕 Then we opened the doors for The Antidote to Burnout, an evening of conversation about running on empty, workplace wellbeing and what actually helps!

It was lovely to bring everyone together, share ideas and enjoy some good company along the way.

Can you actually use AI… or just say you can? 👀

As AI becomes a bigger part of everyday work, employers are having to look beyond whether someone simply says they “use ChatGPT”.

Google’s recent UK research suggests that more effective AI users tend to share a number of learnable behaviours, including:

✔ Using AI for inspiration, creation and research
✔ Refining prompts when the first answer isn’t good enough
✔ Looking for ways to integrate AI into everyday work
✔ Sharing useful AI use cases with others
✔ Automating repetitive tasks where it makes sense

If you’re asked about your AI skills in an interview, try to have a real example ready.

What did you use AI for?
How did it improve the task?
Did you have to change your approach or refine your prompt?
Did it save you time or improve the result?

Increasingly, employers aren’t just interested in whether you know how to use AI — they want to understand how you think and work with it.

Think you're too young for the role?

Or worried you're too experienced?

You're not alone.

These are some of the biggest concerns candidates bring into interviews.

But here's the thing...

You can't control the assumptions an interviewer might have.

You can control the evidence you give them.

If you're worried they think you're too inexperienced...

Don't tell them you're a good leader.

Show them how you earned trust, influenced others or took ownership.

If you're worried they think you're overqualified...

Don't just say you're adaptable.

Tell them about a time you embraced change, learned something new or succeeded in a different environment.

The strongest candidates don't try to guess what the interviewer is thinking.

They answer in a way that leaves no room for doubt.

That's what gets remembered.

Same skills.
Same experience.
So why did they get the job... and not you?

Here's the truth most people don't realise:

By the final interview, everyone can usually do the role.

The hiring panel isn't deciding who can do the job.
They're deciding who they can picture succeeding in it.

The candidates who stand out don't just talk about what they did.

They explain:
✔️ Why they made that decision.
✔️ What they were thinking.
✔️ What happened because of it.

That's what demonstrates judgement.

And judgement is often what separates:

❌ "Thanks for your time..."

from

✅ "We'd like to offer you the role."

If you keep hearing, "You interviewed really well, but..." it might not be your experience that's holding you back.

It might be how you're communicating it.

One piece of interview advice we give candidates time and time again...

Don't spend your last few minutes before an interview frantically reading through your notes.

By the time you've arrived, your preparation is done.

Instead, look up.

Take in the workplace, observe how people interact, and ask yourself:

"Can I actually picture myself working here?"

If the answer is yes, that enthusiasm will naturally come across in your interview.

If it's no, that's valuable too. Interviews aren't just about impressing an employer. They're your opportunity to decide whether the role and culture are the right fit for you.
