Senior Underwriter / Area Manager
Hybrid – ideally 2-3 days at one of the Southern offices which are in London, Essex or Sussex.
Salary: £65,000 to £70,000 p.a. + benefits including share options.

Our client is a Lloyds Underwriting Agency and Global Insurance group, who are looking for an experienced Senior Real Estate Underwriter or Area Manager with hands-on-the ability of managing High-end Non-Standard policies and able to support a team of 10 Underwriters across the Southern region.

This is not an operational role, 40% of the time you will be managing your own underwriting policies with high end key clients and 60% of your time will be focused on reviewing your teams’ trading results, monitoring trends and identifying opportunities as well as ensuring that your team achieve the highest results.

Duties include:
• Reviewing trading results and trends, identifying opportunities and overseeing the team.
• Evaluating the risk and exposures of customers for new business, mid-term adjustments and renewals from the company’s network of UK and Ireland brokers.
• Quoting, converting and retaining business to meet budget and underwriting performance targets for the range of specialist insurance products in the Real Estate division, facultative and sub binder distribution channels.
• Developing and growing the company’s presence, GWP and income in the Southeast by meeting or exceeding the budgeted new business and renewal retention rate for the region.
• Operationally managing a team of 11, and lead, inspire and motivate the underwriters to achieve the agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA). Building training and development for new starters and existing staff in order to increase the team’s efficiency through continual process improvement and/or continual performance improvements.
• Underwriting new business, renewal and mid-term adjustments, trading with brokers.
• Developing, building and creating new broker relationships, with regular performance visits, meetings and broker events.
• Monthly reporting to Senior Management.
• Meeting operational objectives, SLA’s and KPI’s.
• Real Estate Underwriting and taking underwriting referrals where directed.
• Monitoring, encouraging and developing individuals’ performance and competency by way of regular 121’s, coaching, underwriting training and annual Personal Development Cycle (PDC) appraisal process.
• Supporting the full range of products where required.
• Understanding and distribute MI and working with the Technical Management and Business Development teams to ensure we achieve budgeted GWP and target loss ratios.
• Perform other duties from time to time as determined by the Senior Management Team.
Key Requirements
 Previous experience working as a Senior Underwriter overseeing key clients.
 Team mentoring and management experience to ensure they achieve goals and targets.
 Cert CII qualified progressing towards Dip CII.
 Proven track record in property/real estate underwriting within an MGA, insurance company or Lloyd’s syndicate.

Regional Trading Manager - Real Estate Underwriting

· Effectively promote and deploy company strategies, product ranges, propositions, and key differentiators to leverage commercial opportunities.

Experience Required:
· At least 2 years in similar role.
· Strong background in commercial underwriting with Real Estate underwriting.
· Strong Trading expertise.
· Good communication skills.
· Ability to achieve results and manage strong relationships.
