For anyone working in education — particularly SEND, SEMH, AP’s —
Steve is a must watch. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32985279/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
Set in the 1990s, the film follows a headteacher trying to hold together a residential reform school for boys with severe behavioural and emotional difficulties, at a time when many young people were simply labelled “disruptive” or “unreachable” rather than understood.
What the film captures brilliantly is the reality behind SEMH. The trauma, the lack of support, the pressure on schools and staff, and the importance of relationships when working with vulnerable young people.
For those of us working in SEND and behaviour support, it’s a powerful reminder that behaviour is communication — and that consistency, patience and understanding can make all the difference.
A difficult watch at times, but an important one for anyone working with young people today, and how far we’ve come 🙌
