Since our founding in 1984, creativity has been an animating force for us at the Bromley by Bow Centre. This spirit is embodied by all of our resident artists, who give great time and energy to ensure the arts remain a central pillar of our work.

Today, we celebrate Mürüde Mehmet, a resident artist at the Centre for 28 years.

Happy Birthday Mürüde!

Your ceramics and pottery skill, on display in the classes you lead for the local community, is truly valued by all of us.

Last week, Diye - a local resident and artist himself - gifted Mürüde a painting he did to thank her for all her work with him over recent times. See the video below.

“I owe a lot of my progress in the past year to Mürüde,” said Diye.

EASTER CLOSURE TIMES & ADDITIONAL CONTACTS & SERVICES

We will be closing the Bromley by Bow Centre doors from 5pm on Thursday 2 April until 9am on Tuesday 7 April.

Our Welcome Hub will close at 1pm on Thursday 2 April and reopen at 9.15am on Tuesday 7 April.

If you have an urgent issue visit the Tower Hamlets Council website (in bio) for a list of emergency numbers.

For mental health support please ring NHS 111 Option 2 for the crisis intervention service or Samaritans on 116 123.

For homelessness support Shelter‘s emergency helpline can be reached on 080 800 4444

Bow Foodbank (St Stephens Health Centre, William Place, E3 5ED) will be open as usual.

The park and gardens here at the Centre will continue to be open from 9am close at 7.30pm every day.

Bromley by Bow Health Practice will be closed from 6.30pm on Thursday 2 April until 8am on Tuesday 7 April.

ArtFix Café, our onsite café, will be closing from 3pm on Thursday 2 April until 9am on Tuesday 7 April.

Thanks to our partnership with the fantastic we’ll be distributing free fruit and vegetables here at the Bromley by Bow Centre on Wednesday 25 March.

To further strengthen our organisation and our impact, we have joined with Family Action. This merger will ensure we preserve all that is good at the Centre and that we'll be in a stronger position to keep delivering our vital services and activities to local residents.

Our name will remain the same and our services and activities will continue without interruption.

Family Action is a national charity, working closely with communities across England and Wales. For 150 years, they have been supporting families through challenge and change. FREE DIGITAL TRAINING & SUPPORT - TOMORROW, TUES 17 FEB, 11AM-2PM

We will will be holding an open digital (IT) session here at the Bromley by Bow Centre tomorrow, Tuesday 17 Feb, 11am-2pm.

Food and drink will be provided. Kids are welcome.

This session will:

📲 Help people better understand their devices
🛜 Get online
🏥 Use service like the NHS app
💻 Any other digital help you may need

There will be plenty of helpers to help you, and devices for people to use if you don’t have your own.

Also, our Welcome Hub at the Centre has laptops that can be used when the hub is open - and you’ll find lots more resources here.

We’re here if you need support or just want to see what’s happening in our area of East London.

As the campaign title says: You are loved and wanted in London!

Along with our valued partners, we are really pleased to be part of this campaign. In a time of social angst and worry for many in our community and across London, we are 100% behind this timely work.

We'll be offering our spaces for various events to help bring people together.

Our CEO Elly De Decker and several colleagues were at the launch last night, showing our support for this worthwhile movement.

Loved and Wanted is a campaign from the Mayor of London that reaffirms to Londoners that no matter who you are or where you’re from – you are loved and wanted in our city.

We're honoured to be working alongside our local partners to help bring this campaign to life: Bromley by Bow Church in the Community (United Reformed Church), Christ Apostolic Church East London Assembly, Bromley By Bow Bangladeshi Forum and Muslim Cultural Centre (Bromley by Bow Masjid’s Charity), Women's Inclusive Team (WIT), The Salvation Army – Stepney & Poplar Corps and the Bromley by Bow Health Partnership.

Great to be working with you all on this.

A £24,000 grant from our Investec Beyond Business programme has undoubtedly helped Annie Hought and her business Round Retail.

More than the money, though, she gained an invaluable amount from the close support from Investec and Bromley by Bow Centre specialists and mentors.

After an application process, Annie was one of four winners last year.

"Everybody was at a different stage in their social enterprise, and it was just nice to be in a cohort with people that had really inspiring businesses that all wanted to do something a bit better for the world," she said.
