The Challenge Group story began mid 2011, starting with The Recruitment Shed being set up by brothers Tom and Richard Cropper. The brothers are the fourth generation of the family to be involved in logistics and started in 2007 with a successful food logistics business, which was sold in 2012. It is this background that has given an understanding of exactly the issues logistics businesses face when recruiting agency staff for a flex labour model. The Recruitment Shed was born out of the founders’ frustrations with their own agency suppliers not providing a good enough service for their business. Challenge Group has grown through recommendations due to its concentration on service, compliance and safety both for clients and agency staff. Our focused expansion within the driving sector has seen completion of some significant acquisitions; namely of Driver Link UK, Agency Drivers North West, and the niche agency First Step Recruitment Solutions, which specialises in drinks logistics staffing. This growth has enabled a strengthened client offering through shared resources and efficiencies, along with significant investment in technology and resourcing. The business has grown from a small office in the warehouse, employing only the founders, to now employing 30 members of internal staff in state of the art offices, with over 700 drivers across the group. Our clients range from small van operations to large Master and Lead Vend solutions supplying HGV drivers and also HGV units for traction and general haulage. A major part of the vision is make sure we look after our agency workers, providing consistent work only with clients that provide a safe environment. Challenge Group invest heavily in training, using our own accredited driver assessors to make sure our workers meet specific client criteria and safe systems of work. We cover everything from dray training for beer delivery to refrigeration training for fresh produce. We have experienced over 200% growth year on year and have now expanded the group with our own transport offering, namely Challenge Transport & Distribution, enabling is to provide a total logistics solution.
