Teacher recruitment is improving, but the pressure
hasn’t disappeared.
In England, postgraduate secondary teacher training
entrants rose by 13% in 2025/26, but secondary
recruitment still reached only 89% of its target.
Primary recruitment, meanwhile, exceeded its target at
128%. 🏫
For schools, the message is clear: attracting teachers
matters, but retaining them matters just as much.
Workload, behaviour support, mentoring, and flexibility
are becoming the real difference-makers in education
recruitment. NFER found that 90% of teachers
considering leaving in 2023/24 cited high workload as a
contributing factor.
At Teach Now, we know great teaching starts with feeling
supported, not stretched. 👩🏫
For schools: build environments teachers want to stay
in.
For educators: look for roles where support is part of the
culture, not just a line in the job advert.
