What is an intro paragraph in a CV? Do I need to write one, and why?
Not many people know that you can actually include a paragraph of plain writing on your CV. We are so used to using bullet points and tables of sorts in our resume... finally, somebody allowing you to just write as usual!
Um, but.. what do you write? And why?
The intro paragraph is used to:
👀 Catch the eyes of the person reading your CV. This is the part that will stand out - so use this fact!
🔝 Give a sense of direction. Explain who you are now - what is your field of specialization? - as well as why you are applying to this employer.
📃 Outline the most important facts. What is it about you that the employer should definitely not miss? For example, if you have some incredible language skills that are currently at the bottom of your CV, flash them here too.
The intro paragraph should he short - just a few sentences. I like to keep it brief too, writing in a "condensed bullet point" style.
Do not write too much - this is not the place to make grammatical mistakes! Also, do not waffle. This part will be extremely eye-catching, so don't use phrases such as "team player", "think outside the box", "ambitious" (here, or anywhere else on your CV!). Instead, show it through your achievements and history.
