Our take on the vaccines' consequences for the UK job market
- The expectation of effective vaccines is likely to contribute to stronger household and business sentiment. This may reduce the number of redundancies in 2021 throughout the year
- As health concerns dissipate, spending is also likely to pick up. This should help the Architecture & Construction sector recover alongside the broader economy
- The REC’s latest Jobs Recovery Tracker reports that roles in construction continue to recovery strongly from March lows

UK job market likely to move into stasis in next few months:

Keep plugging away… UK regional restrictions shouldn’t slow the economy like the April/May lockdown
- Economists estimate the new UK restrictions may hit economy only one-tenth of the April/May lockdown restrictions
- Meanwhile, job listings continue their gradual recovery
- Chancellor Sunak’s revamped Winter Job Support Scheme should get us until at least the end of January, after the COVID vaccine (expected before Christmas)

Environmental, Social & Governance Factors in Architecture & Construction
- There are several global themes driving increased adoption of ESG principles across both public and private sector organizations
- Architecture & Construction companies can offer a double-geared positive ESG effect: the work they do for clients and how they do that work
- Professionals need to understand sectors that are ESG friendly, and those that are not

Read our thoughts on today's Winter Economic Plan announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Sunak blinks: UK government’s winter Job Support Scheme made significantly more generous
- The UK government’s Winer Economic Plan (WEP) for post-October furlough scheme was made maybe 1.5% of GDP more generous today
- It will likely lower the peak rate of unemployment, and possibly push it into next year
- The construction industry will benefit from better overall business confidence, and from a doubling (vs. previous plan) of the state grants to the self-employed of 40% of wages

UK employment – don’t look back in anger. Our take on Monday's employment data:
- Looking beneath the employment headlines, employers’ confidence to add new hires is improving
- Vacancies and new job listings are rising. But competition for jobs from redundant workers will rise too, probably a lot
- Headline unemployment is likely to go up materially in the next few months as furloughed employees are made redundant
