Our founder Robert Hughes has been contributing to a LinkedIn collaborative article about recruiting security operatives. When asked about assessing candidates, this is what he had to say. What do you think?

"I advocate for incorporating tests and simulations into the evaluation process. These tools offer a nuanced understanding of candidates' technical and soft skills, ensuring a comprehensive assessment. Moreover, my perspective emphasises the need to go beyond the tangible skills and delve into intangibles such as potential, curiosity, and passion for cybersecurity.

Having successfully placed numerous professionals in dynamic roles, I recognise the value of candidates who not only showcase existing skills but also demonstrate a keen ability to learn, adapt, and collaborate. This approach ensures that your team comprises individuals who thrive in the fast-paced and complex environment."

In a recent collaborative article about recruiting security operatives, our Founder Robert Hughes had the following to say when asked about diverisfying the sources used during recruitment.

"My industry expertise underscores that relying solely on traditional channels like job boards and referrals can limit your reach.

To truly capture the spectrum of talent, it's imperative to explore unconventional avenues. I recommend venturing into the realms of social media, online communities, and forging partnerships with educational institutions. These alternative channels not only amplify your brand visibility but also facilitate engagement with potential applicants.

Beyond the confines of routine recruitment, events and competitions serve as dynamic platforms to unearth hidden talent. By incorporating these strategies into your recruitment framework, you showcase your brand's forward-thinking approach."

The SIA (Security Industry Association) has shared its business plan for 2023 and 2024. They aim to improve standards while regulating, effectively and efficiently.

You can read the whole plan here, but the focus on “enhanced attractiveness of the industry to potential employees and balanced retention in private security as a valued career with an emphasis on continuous skills development and recognition of specialisms,” discussed on page 20 resonates especially with Stirsec’s values.
