The government is stepping in to ensure employers protect female workers from sexual harassment.

It recently made several changes to the Employment Rights Act, and one of them relates to sexual harassment.

Starting October 2026, it will be mandatory for employers to establish measures to prevent this form of violation. In addition, they will also need to protect whistleblowers from victimisation.

Many women work under insecure zero-hour contracts because they are flexible, hence enabling them to take care of their households.

However, these jobs have been a great disadvantage when it comes to sick pay because they only offer it if a worker has been sick for 4 consecutive days.

The good news is that the government recently amended the Employment Rights Act, making sick pay from day one mandatory. This will benefit about 800,000+ female workers on zero-hour contracts.
