Why I support working from home and hybrid working
Flexible working isn’t about convenience — it’s about effectiveness, inclusion, and sustainability.
For many roles, working from home or in a hybrid way delivers real benefits:
• Better work–life balance, particularly for parents, carers, and those with health needs
• Increased productivity with fewer unnecessary distractions
• Reduced stress, burnout, and sickness absence
• Greater access to employment for disabled people and those with long-term conditions
• Lower commuting costs and a positive impact on the environment
• Improved staff retention and access to a wider, more diverse talent pool
• Reduced overheads for businesses
• Clear evidence since COVID that many roles can be performed effectively outside a traditional office
• Support for regional equality, rather than concentrating opportunity in expensive city centres
Crucially, decisions about whether someone works from home, hybrid, or in an office should sit with employers and employees, based on the role, performance, and individual circumstances — not imposed by politicians who aren’t part of that working relationship.
