A cyber CV can look strong and still be completely wrong for the role.

A Security Engineer in one company might be focused on cloud controls.

In another, the same title covers vulnerability management, endpoint tooling and incident triage.

In a third, it is infrastructure hardening and network security architecture.

Same title. Three different roles. Three different candidate profiles.

That is why cyber recruitment cannot be done by keyword matching alone.

You need to understand what the person has actually done, what environment they did it in, and whether that maps to your specific situation.

That is the difference between sending CVs and making relevant introductions.

Hiring a Cloud Security Engineer?

AWS, Azure and GCP all have different security models, tooling ecosystems and IAM structures.

A security engineer who is strong in AWS may need time to ramp up in an Azure-first environment. That is not a disqualifier — but it needs to be understood before you build the shortlist.

Before briefing a recruiter, answer these:

— Which cloud platforms are actually in scope?
— Is this a build role or a run role?
— How embedded is security in your development process?
— Does this person work alongside DevOps or separately from them?

The answers change the profile significantly.

A CV tells an employer where you have been.

It does not always explain what you have actually done or why it matters for the role they are hiring for.

At CyberSearch, we build proper candidate profiles.

That means: a clear summary of your experience, the environments you have worked in, what you have built or contributed, your motivations and what you are looking for next.

We then present that to companies where it is relevant.

You are not just a CV in a pile. You are a professional being represented clearly and carefully.

Most recruitment is reactive.

A role opens. An ad goes up. CVs come in. They get forwarded.

Candidate-led recruitment works the other way around.

We speak with cyber professionals continuously. When we find someone good, we assess them, build a clear profile and look for companies where they may be a genuine fit.

That means when you are hiring, we may already have the right person.

And when we introduce someone, it is because there is a real reason not because you were next on the call list.

If you want to understand how this works in practice, we are happy to walk you through it.

The best cyber candidates are not always applying for your role.

They are employed. They are good at what they do. They are not spending evenings on job boards.

They will consider the right opportunity if it is presented in the right way, by someone they trust, for a role that genuinely fits where they want to go.

That is why posting a job ad and waiting is not a complete strategy for specialist cyber hiring.

Reaching the right people requires ongoing market presence, not just activity when a role opens.

At CyberSearch, we speak with cyber professionals continuously not just when we have a brief to fill.

Here is how CyberSearch actually works - step by step.

1. We identify strong cyber candidates in the market
2. We have a proper conversation to understand their background
3. We build a clear profile not just a reformatted CV
4. We match them to companies where the fit makes sense
5. We approach those companies with an anonymised profile
6. We confirm genuine interest before sharing any details
7. We manage the introduction, interviews and feedback
8. We check every key decision before it moves forward

No CV dumps. No speculative mass submissions. No candidate details shared without a reason.

Just a more careful way to connect cyber talent with the right employers.

5 things to define before you start a cyber security search:

1. What does this person actually do day to day not just the title
2. What environment have they come from startup, enterprise, MSSP
3. Which frameworks or tools matter in your specific setup
4. What has made previous hires in this role fail
5. What is the salary range confirmed internally, not approximate

The quality of your shortlist is almost entirely decided by the quality of your brief.

Get these five things clear before you go to market and you will save yourself weeks of wasted interviews.

Security Analyst and Security Engineer are not the same role.

But they show up in the same job brief more often than you would think.

Security Analyst: monitors the environment, triages alerts, investigates threats, responds to incidents.

Security Engineer: builds controls, manages security tooling, designs infrastructure security, works with cloud and DevOps teams.

One is primarily a monitor and responder. The other is primarily a builder and implementer.

Knowing which one you need before going to market is the difference between a shortlist that works and one that does not.

Which role are you trying to fill?
Drop a comment; happy to help think it through.

Cyber hiring is often blamed on a talent shortage.

Sometimes that is true.

But a lot of the time, the real problem is that the role is badly defined.

A company wants a cloud security engineer, a GRC specialist, an incident responder and a security architect — in one person.

Then they wonder why the market looks thin.

The first step is not always finding more candidates.

Sometimes it is getting honest about what the role actually is.

If you work in cyber security, where your CV goes matters.

This is a specialist, connected market. People know each other. Companies talk.

Being submitted to 20 employers at once without your knowledge, without a clear reason is not recruitment.

It is noise. And it can hurt your reputation.

At CyberSearch, your CV goes to companies where there is a specific, genuine reason for the introduction.

Not everywhere. Not to everyone.

If you want to be represented properly in the cyber market, we would like to talk.
