How important is your salary as a Landscape Architect? 🤔 Salary isn´t the be all-end all, but it kind of matters doesn´t it?

It affects your quality of life, your options, and how sustainable the job feels long term. It´s also a signal because practices that pay fairly often have clearer progression, better support, and more realistic workloads.

That said, salary is not the only factor. When comparing roles, weigh pay alongside progression, project exposure, flexibility, and team culture.

Bottom line: aim for fair pay, but choose the role that helps you grow without burning out and means you have the right responsibilities for your capabilities.

Salary nearly always comes up at Careers, even when someone’s very clear they’re staying put.

I spoke to a couple of landscape architects last week who just wanted a sense check. Nothing dramatic, just whether they were roughly in the right place compared to others at a similar level. Both were surprised by how wide the range actually is at the moment.

They weren’t about to move, but it definitely gave them something to think about. 🤔 💭

Bringing ecological insight, LVIA thinking and technical advice into concept development is producing deeper and more resilient ideas. The era of the isolated design process is fading.

As a landscape architect, what´s the best way to make a great impression at an interview?

It's not just about your portfolio or qualifications.

Interviews are really about showing you understand what the practice is about and how you could fit in.

If you want to stand out, do your homework.
Research some of their projects. Pick one you like the most and say why. Maybe it’s the way they handled a complex site, used planting in a clever way, or made a public space feel more welcoming.

Bring this up in the interview.
It shows you’re thorough and genuinely interested in their work, not just looking for any job.

You don’t need all the answers. But if you show you care, and you’re ready to learn, it makes a difference.

Open to members and non members, and one of the biggest opportunities to get your work recognised in the industry. Always a strong mix of projects each year and a good way to see where standards are heading across the profession.
