This is only the beginning, but we're on the right path “to make flexible working the default”.

Employees will finally be given the right to ask for flexible working from their first day at a new job, the government has confirmed.

It’s great to see legislative change coming - now the work starts in how we make it work on the ground. Employers will need support to implement this, and to design truly flexible jobs for all.

There’s no doubt it’s progress, but we must remember some workers still won't feel comfortable asking for flexible working.

To truly level the playing field and make it the default, we need all organisations to offer employees flexibility from day one, rather than employees having to request it; only then can flexible working become a reality for all.

We’re getting there… 💙🧡

Did you know on average we spend 59 minutes per day travelling to and from work? That's 221 hours a year commuting. Imagine what else you could in that time…

What would you do with that time back?

(we also understand that for some, working from home isn’t an option, but we believe everyone should have workplace flexibility when needed)

More than a hundred UK companies, employing over 2,600 workers, have now moved permanently to a four-day week working model since the start of the pandemic, with no loss of pay for employees.

While the 4 day week might not be for every organisation, it’s reimagining a work of work beyond the traditional Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

It’s these new ways of working that benefit us all, and help drive forward the push for flexible working agenda.

Kudos to the / for pushing this forward, and all the companies involved, we hope to see more of it in the future…

Employers, this one's for you.

The lay-offs of 2022 have been constant; both at large scale firms such as Meta, Spotify, Twitter, and at many smaller firms that didn’t make the press.

We want to make a difference, and ensure anyone affected from lay-offs finds a new role.

If you hire anyone recently laid off via our platform, we’ll refund you the cost.

It’s a start, and our small contribution to ensuring talent doesn’t go unnoticed.

Flexibility is not just 'family friendly'.

Flexible working isn't just for parents, yet many organisations still state their policy in the context of family life.

Parents make up 40% of the workforce. However, flexible work is something that makes sense for 100% of the workforce.

The sooner change comes about, the sooner everyone wins regardless of their circumstance.

That includes mums; dads; care-givers; senior staff; junior staff; part-time; full-time... everyone.

The change in policies would help end stigmatism in the workplace around flexibility; not just for parents, but for all individuals.

The #1 reason employees want to work from home is to avoid the commute.

The average time spent travelling to and from work is 59 minutes per day. That's 221 hours a year getting to and from work.

Imagine what else you could in that time:

🏡 get an additional 30 days' worth of work done...

📺 watch the whole of Schitt’s Creek seven times...

📖 read 17 books...

🤾‍♀️ workout 221 times (who am I kidding?)...

😴 or just sleep an extra 13,260 minutes.

The gift of time is the most valuable benefit any company can offer.

The return to office policy alone won’t cut it.

People now expect flexibility and autonomy around how, when, and where they work.

Policy alone will not reverse this reality: 73% of employees and 78% of business decision makers say they need a better reason to go in than just company expectations.

Companies must embrace the fact that people come in for each other. The organisations that invest and use in-person time to rebuild team bonds and networks, will ultimately win and retain talent.

🚨 We’ve just launched Flexibase, the UK’s first database that allows candidates to find an organisation's approach to flexible working, in supported by Flex Appeal () and leading D&I consultancy, Included 🚨

As a job seeker, it’s incredibly difficult to find an organisation's approach to flexible working. 68% of companies in the UK don’t outwardly publicise their flexibility, yet 98% of individuals are in favour of employers publishing their policies. This is why we created Flexibase, to change the lack of transparency between organisations and candidates.

Flexibase gives candidates like you, the ability to find an organisation that fits their flexible working needs, while allowing organisations to outwardly publicise their approach. The platform utilises our bespoke flexible working methodology of four key components: working patterns, workload, workplace and life events, which features 20+ different types of flexible working options.

This is about changing transparency and setting an industry standard for the future of flexible work.

To discover an organisation that fits your flexible needs and requirements, visit Flexibase on www.workyourway.com.
