“Homeworking must not be the only flexible working arrangement available, and employers should take action to offer and encourage the uptake of a broad range of options that give opportunities for everyone to have more choice and flexibility in how they work".

Amen, CIPD CEO Peter. Amen!

CIPD analysis of Labour Force Survey data shows a decline in the use of part-time working, flexi-time and annualised hours.

Here’s a snippet from my latest interview which celebrates International Women’s day.

I am interviewed a lot, but in this one I felt far more comfortable.

Perhaps because it was a friend and somebody I truly admire – Dawn Pain – who interviewed me as part of her Creativity Reframed series. We discussed female leadership in a crisis.

The founder of The Extraordinary Club, an expert marketer, entrepreneur and friend - and she really tapped into some of my true passions.

We discussed women I admire. The role of flexibility. How companies with women on the board perform better.

Is the quality of empathy the secret sauce of those women at the top?

Or is it something else?

We're embracing (trying to) another national lockdown so it's back to working and living in the same environment. Sometimes when it's cold and wet it feels like more of a chore than in previous lockdowns but getting out of the house is still just as essential.

The first couple of periods we could get away with a desk lunch and checking emails in front of the TV. Your 'desk' followed you everywhere and there was almost a novelty to it. But now it is so important for us to distinguish between work and play to avoid feeling entirely cooped up. We need real downtime, away from screens and the constant current of information.

My daily walk is time for me to recharge and have some quiet.

Try a total change of scenery before your working day or at lunch. If you can get outdoors, even better.

Let me know how you get on!

How many of you have to pile several (sometimes precarious) objects underneath your laptop to obtain the perfect angle for a video call?

Well, I’m always looking for ways to be kinder to the planet and a little bit more sustainable. It’s nearly Christmas, which means more deliveries and more packaging.

This is how I’ve been using my Amazon cardboard boxes... They’re the perfect height for achieving a flattering zoom angle (and somewhat more steady than some of the Jenga-esq book stacks I’ve seen).

Has anyone else noticed how no surface in the home is quite the desired height for a we**am?

Send in any thoughts - inventive uses for excess packaging? What sits below your laptop throughout a video conference? Any good ideas will be reposted!

I have just read in about a, US-based firm Hubstaff – a remote company that provides staff monitoring through time tracking software – revealed that its number of UK customers has spiked by four times year-on-year since February.

Elsewhere, Sneek, a company that offers tech that takes photos of workers through their laptop and uploads them for colleagues to see, has witnessed a five-fold increase in its number of users during the lockdown period.

Surely, we have learnt during this time that trust is essential, if your boss doesn’t trust you, you are working for the wrong boss. If you don’t trust your staff, you have the wrong staff!
