Transition to e-Visas in the UK
As part of the UK Government's push towards a streamlined and secure immigration system, physical immigration documents are being replaced with digital eVisas.
This change comes into effect from the 31st December 2024 and will impact both individuals and organisations that need to check immigration status, such as employers, landlords, educational institutions, and transport operators.
🔑 Key Points:
Physical documents like Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and cards (BRCs) will be phased out by the end of 2024.
Individuals will use eVisas to prove their rights in the UK by generating share codes via their UKVI accounts.
Employers must adapt to this change by using digital verification services for right-to-work checks.
Current BRP holders can continue using their BRPs until expiry but should create a UKVI account at buff.ly/3vVqQCo to transition to an eVisa.
🌐 What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is a secure, online record of an individual's immigration status. It’s more convenient than physical documents as it can’t be lost or stolen and simplifies processes like proving rights, accessing public services, and international travel.
