Let’s look at a cold, hard market reality for 2026.

Right now, 79% of UK households are actively rationing their energy use. They aren’t just turning down thermostats; they are rethinking their entire homes.

This means the consumer psychology has fundamentally shifted.

When a homeowner enquires about new windows today, they are not looking for a cosmetic upgrade. They are looking for a financial shield against utility spikes.

So ask yourself: Is your field sales team still using 2023 scripts? Are they still pitching frame aesthetics and handles?

If they are, you aren’t just losing deals; you are actively burning some of your most expensive, high-intent marketing leads.

In this market, you cannot afford to have order-takers or lead burners in your team. You need Sales Consultants who speak fluent thermal efficiency and ROI.

The first company to respond with real expertise always wins the job. Make sure it’s your team.

May has shown us that the 2026 market rewards precision, not volume.

The opportunity right now is clear, with 54% of homeowners planning major renovations this year. But at the same time, field sales teams are facing a transition, with 35% of the current workforce approaching retirement.

In a cautious market, the companies protecting their margins are focusing heavily on the quality of their sales force.

Wasting high-intent leads or putting the wrong rep in front of a customer doesn't just cost a single commission - research shows a damaged reputation can cost a brand up to 22% of its turnover.

The data shows a clear shift toward a highly consultative, "Value Add" approach in the home.

For businesses: We find the design consultants who specialise in this consultative environment, helping operations achieve in-home conversion rates of up to 75%.

For sales professionals: We connect the top 1% of talent with premier brands where performance is rewarded with OTEs ranging from £75k to £100k+.

Whether you’re looking to build a high-performance team or you’re ready for your next six-figure challenge, Citrus Connect makes the connection.

Did you know that purchase intent jumps by 40% the moment you project a 3D model into a homeowner's living room?

But this is about more than just a slick visual. Look at who is buying:

53% of 18-34-year-olds are prioritising renovation over relocation.

They grew up with digital immersion.

If your team is still relying on paper brochures and arduous paperwork to win them over, you aren't just behind the times, you are effectively invisible to the most active market segment today.

The digital advantage doesn't stop at the first meeting. Our research shows that a structured digital follow-up boosts instruction conversion by 12%.

The digital-native buyer doesn't just want a price; they want an experience.

They are used to seamless, high-tech interactions in every other part of their lives. If your sales process feels like a relic from the past, don't be surprised when they go to the competitor who makes it feel like the future.

The bar has been raised. Is your sales team equipped to meet it, or are they still operating in the past?

78% of customers choose the first company to respond to their enquiry. But it’s time to understand what that really means...

Homeowners often choose the first company to respond because they assume that company is the most organised, the most stable, and the most prepared to handle a £15,000+ investment in their home.

The moment you make that first call, you are not just trying to book a slot. You are signalling whether you are a serious business partner or simply another lead-farm.

At Citrus, we see companies lose deals because the first interaction feels transactional rather than consultative.

The businesses that convert best do not just make contact. They create confidence.

If your team is coached around presence, understanding and credibility, they stop sounding like telemarketers and start behaving like consultants.

Stop chasing the metric. Start strengthening the moment of trust.

The UK home improvement retail market is on track to reach a £16.7 billion valuation by 2033. The only question is: Who is going to capture that revenue?

The "Improve, Not Move" trend isn't a temporary fix, it is the new normal.

Homeowners are no longer just looking for a roof over their heads; they’re transforming their residence into a long-term, high-efficiency asset. They are pouring the money they’d have spent on moving costs back into their own equity.

But there’s a catch…

The 2026 homeowner is a different breed. They are educated, they know their Part L regulations, and they value efficiency. They have zero patience for old-school salespeople, and they are only buying from professional sales consultants who can prove they know how to deliver a smart, high-value investment.

At Citrus Connect, we’re seeing the top tier of this industry respond by upgrading their sales infrastructure to match this level of sophistication.

It leaves us asking: Is your current setup built to keep up? And when you're in the living room, what’s the biggest change you're seeing in homeowner expectations right now?

30/04/2026

The hiring mistakes we are seeing every week in 2026:

1. Waiting for the “perfect” candidate: While you hunt for a unicorn, your competitor just hired the 90% fit who is already closing deals.

2. Involving too many decision-makers: If your process requires five signatures and a board meeting, you’ve already lost.

3. Poor candidate experience: If you treat people like a number, don’t be surprised when they don't buy into the vision.

4. Lack of clarity: If you can’t define what "success" looks like in the role, they’ll never hit the mark.

5. Delayed feedback: Silence is a rejection. Responsiveness is a sign of respect.

None of these are market problems.

They are process problems.

The companies winning right now are not necessarily the ones with the biggest budgets. They are the ones who treat their hiring process like a handshake, not a hurdle.

They have stripped away the red tape, they communicate like adults, and they treat every candidate with the respect they deserve.

Are you actually struggling to find talent, or is your own process just standing in the way of it?

The part you don’t always see from days like the Ideal Home Show…

Early train. Coffee in hand. Sun is actually shining (a rare win). A full day ahead, walking the floor, meeting people, and taking it all in.

But beyond the event itself, days like this are about more than just the show. They’re about the time out of our usual routine. Proper conversations. A chance to step back and look at the bigger picture.

For Mags Grover, it was their first time at the show, and safe to say they made the most of it!
From the journey in, to the conversations on the ground, to a well-earned lunch break in the middle of it all, it was a brilliant day.

It’s easy to focus solely on the output: the meetings, the insights, the opportunities. But the time spent together as a team matters just as much. Because, ultimately, the same thing applies internally as it does in the market: the right people make the difference.

A great day all round.

Saturday done right at the Ideal Home Show

We’re still buzzing from a brilliant Saturday, soaking up the inspiration, the innovation, the design, and the people pushing this industry forward.

The variety on display this weekend - from next-gen tech to bespoke builds, really showed how fast this industry is moving. Seeing products on a screen is one thing, but witnessing that level of innovation in person is entirely different.

Walking the aisles, it was clear that this was more than just window shopping. We heard high-intent enquiries at almost every stand. People showed up with plans, budgets, and a clear readiness to get to work.

It is a massive reminder that when the product is right and the team on the floor is sharp, the market isn’t slow; it is active. Watching these teams turn footfall into real business opportunities was a masterclass in sales delivery.

We also loved catching up with a few of our existing clients. Seeing them in their element and handling the rush with such professionalism was a real highlight for us.

A huge credit to every brand we saw…the innovation is high, but the ex*****on is even better.

One of the best things we saw at the Ideal Home Show wasn’t a product….

The Ideal Home Show is always a highlight for us, we love seeing the innovation and design happening in this industry. But this year, one of the stands that stopped us in our tracks wasn't selling a product; it was doing the most important work in the room.

We were thrilled to visit the Furnishing Futures stand, the show’s official charity partner.

Leena has followed their work for years, so it was a genuine privilege to meet Natalie, one of their volunteers, face-to-face.

They’re tackling a massive, hidden issue: 14 million people in the UK are impacted by furniture poverty, and 1 million children don't even have a bed to sleep in.

When you learn that less than 2% of social housing comes furnished (often not even with flooring), you realise that for many people, the path to a stable life is blocked by the simple lack of a mattress or a chair.

Furnishing Futures is changing that, and doing it sustainably by saving 22 million pieces of furniture from landfill every year.

Leena entered the raffle to win one of their paintings (fingers crossed!), but the real takeaway for us was simply spending time with the team behind the mission.

An "ideal home" isn't just about the latest interior trend. It’s about dignity, safety, and a place to rebuild.

Thanks for the incredible work you do.

The team behind the results.

We talk a lot about the personal approach at Citrus Connect. Reviews like the ones we’ve had recently for Rumina and Leena don’t happen by accident - they happen because the people here genuinely care about what they do.

We have only just got around to sharing this, but here’s a snapshot of the crew together for our Easter lunch.

It’s moments like these that remind me why we do what we do.
When you have a team that actually supports each other, it makes helping our candidates and clients navigate this market a whole lot easier.

Good food, better company, and a lot of focus for the quarter ahead.
