Prof Zoe Knowles FCASES is due to conclude her second term as CASES Chair in November 2027. Following open recruitment from eligible members and after a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors, CASES is delighted to propose a new term for Prof Zoe Knowles FCASES, who, in 2021 became the first female Chair of the Association.

The new term of three years, from November 2027, will see Prof Knowles FCASES take the Association through its next strategy.

Prof Knowles said, “I am thrilled to continue leading CASES which has fantastic Board, HQ staff, volunteers and a membership passionate about making a difference for students, academics and practitioners.

"There are undoubtedly challenges within the sector, and CASES has made measurable contributions to debates, policies and advocacy work to support the profession and its standards both nationally and internationally.

"We will continue to grow our reputation and influence over the next few years through our current and future strategy and support members who wish to get involved through projects and initiatives as we do so.”

At the AGM 2026, (4.30-5.30pm, Wednesday 11 November), the Board will formally seek ratification from the membership of the election of Prof Zoe Knowles FCASES as incoming Chair-Elect.

🔦 We are pleased to shine a spotlight on the CASES Occupational Performance Special Interest Group (OPSIG), a growing community of academics and practitioners dedicated to advancing sport and exercise science within physically demanding occupational settings.

👉 While sport and exercise science is often associated with athletic performance, its application extends far beyond traditional sporting environments.

, personnel, workers, and other occupational groups face significant physiological and psychological demands that closely mirror those experienced by elite athletes.

This special interest group was created to provide a forum for professionals working in this space, encouraging collaboration across disciplines including physiology, psychology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.

The group welcomes members at all career stages and is committed to supporting practitioner development, strengthening research activity, and maintaining the high professional standards expected by CASES.

What does effective decision-making look like when the stakes are high, time is limited and scrutiny is constant? What are the similarities between the emergency response and elite sport environments?

Drawing on his experiences as a Professional Football Referee and senior leader within the Fire and Rescue Service, Sam Allison will explore how communication, leadership, teamwork and decision-making can influence outcomes in high-pressure environments.
