No employer brand - mediocre people = mediocre company .

65% of all sales hiring problems, believe it or not are actually marketing and branding issues.

The rest? well that's just the technical stuff like job specs, interviewer skills, and having realistic expectations.

Think your candidate pool isn’t good enough? that’s probably because you aren’t attracting the top talent!

Marketing departments will never admit this but a business actually has two brands, the one the customer sees and the one a prospective employee sees.

Sometimes these can merge if the customer-facing brand is super strong. But almost all hiring managers get this wrong. They mix up the two! they think their customer brand is enough to lure in top talent. IT IS NOT !

So, when you ask them why a salesperson should join their company, they give you the customer pitch. Guess what? That’s totally irrelevant and just makes them look a bit clueless, don't you think?

Its not HR's problem .
Its not TA's problem .

Your employer brand is more important than the one customers see.

No employer brand - mediocre people = mediocre company .

"You're on mute."

If I’d told you age twelve that you’d be saying this at least ten times a week, what would you have thought?

I wonder what my old school teachers would think?

I bet my old English teacher would find it hilarious.

It’s such a weird thing to say to someone "You're on mute".

I think I might start using it as a put-down for boring or irritating people on calls. "You're on mute," I'll say then swiftly hang up!

How often do you find yourself saying it?

Try saying it over and over and over again in your head right now .

Talk about absurd !

You're on MUTE !

If you don't have a goal to reach - are you flying blind?

Sales targets. Marketing CTR. Profit margins.

These are all goals that can be clearly set and can measure success.

And yet there's been a trend recently, particularly in the sales world, where managers are scared to say:

"Here's your target. Hit it."

What do you think? Are goals necessary for success?

Non-financial corporate debt has gone up from 64% of GDP to 81% in America in the last 22 years.

And from 73% to 110% in the Eurosphere.

Surprisingly, it's actually not too bad in the UK.

But the point remains: That is a LOT of debt.

And it's racked up by companies that don't make any profits whatsoever and remain in debt.

The bill WILL come due.

Soon.

So think carefully about where your next sales job is going to be.

- Does the company make money?
- How much debt does it have?
- Would you invest some of your salary into the business?

Think turnover. Think sales. Think profit.

Is a business that has a £40 million pounds of debt and doesn't make profit on £5m turnover a business you want to be working for?

Don't be fooled by the 'cool' and 'trendy' jobs.

Be smart and think like a Dragon 🐉
