Grief doesn’t follow a timeline.
It can affect sleep, confidence, concentration, appetite, motivation and mental health, whether the loss happened recently or years ago.
Over the past couple of months we’ve been talking a lot about mental health and wellbeing, and conversations around grief, loss and emotional wellbeing matter hugely.
One of the hardest parts of grief can be feeling isolated but there is support locally for anyone struggling with bereavement or loneliness.
Some local support available includes:
• The Brigitte Trust - offering free bereavement support programmes across Surrey, including structured 8-week support groups, emotional support and community discussions around death, dying and grief.
• Princess Alice Hospice Bereavement Support - offering counselling, support groups and guidance after loss. They also have regular Community Bereavement Walk and Talks in Leatherhead and Epsom.
• Samaritans - available 24/7 for anyone needing emotional support or simply someone to listen without judgement.
• Mary Frances Trust - supporting mental wellbeing across Surrey through groups, wellbeing activities and one-to-one support.
• The Meeting Room in Leatherhead - providing practical support, connection and a safe space for people experiencing isolation, crisis or difficult periods in life.
• Speaking to your GP if grief is beginning to impact day-to-day life, sleep or mental health.
Sometimes support starts with something very small. A conversation, a coffee with someone who understands or simply recognising that you don’t have to carry everything on your own.
And if someone around you is grieving, checking in and staying present can make more difference than you probably realise.
If you or a loved one are struggling with loneliness, emotional wellbeing or adjusting after a loss, please don’t hesitate to give our friendly team a call. We see every day how important companionship, routine, reassurance and simply having someone there can be for emotional wellbeing after loss. Sometimes support is practical, and sometimes it’s just having someone who listens. 💜
