The UK Government's consultation on proposed changes to zero-hours and low-hours contracts has now closed, with reforms expected to come into force from 2027.

The proposals are designed to provide workers with greater security and predictability and could have a significant impact on businesses that rely on flexible labour, particularly within the agriculture and rural sectors.

Key proposals include:

✅ Offering guaranteed hours in certain circumstances
✅ Providing reasonable notice of shifts
✅ Compensation where shifts are cancelled or changed at short notice

📞 If you'd like to discuss how these proposed changes could affect your business, or arrange a free Employment Rights Act health check, get in touch with our HR Services team: 01561 376021 or email: [email protected]

📧 You can also sign up to our HR Services newsletter for regular updates and practical guidance.

Many rural businesses depend on seasonal and flexible workforces, so it's important that any new legislation recognises the realities of agriculture and rural employment.
Ringlink has worked alongside industry partners to respond to the consultation and will continue to monitor developments, keeping members updated as more information becomes available.
