Wow! What an incredible adventure that was!

Huge well done to the Crossley Scott team members who completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge last week for Invictus Wellbeing!

It's fair to say the weather wasn't on our side....
- Pen-y-ghent ⛅
- Whernside ⛈️
- Ingleborough ⛈️

But... WE DID IT... 24 miles with 1585m ascent and everyone completed within 12 hours! A massive accomplishment, especially in such arduous conditions 👊💪

Congratulations Stefan Newcombe-Davis, Jordan Wade, Matty Owen, Harry Pell & Matt Sheldon.

In support of the fantastic work of Invictus Wellbeing, the Crossley Scott team are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge! On 18th April 2024, Jack, Matty, Jordan, Stefan, Harry, Ryan, Scott and Matt will be hiking the 24-miles (38.6km) with a 1585m (5200ft) ascent over the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres)! The target time is 12 hours!

Invictus Wellbeing deliver projects and services across West Yorkshire to children and young people aged 5-25; aimed at improving and supporting their mental health & emotional wellbeing.

Why our cause is so important...
The picture of children and young people's mental health was the worst it had ever been according to a report by YoungMinds in 2019.

Now with the impact of coronavirus, 83% of young people have said their mental health has made their symptoms worse. This combined with the fact that face to face support has practically been suspended for over a year, as an article from The Guardian coins it, a teenage mental health crisis is brewing.

- The average waiting time for CAMHS mental health support pre Covid was 94 days.
- Only one in four children with a diagnosable mental health problem are accessing appropriate treatment.
- 66% of parent/guardians with a child with mental health problems have reported that waiting times for support was concerning and 49% of parents said that agencies they were referred to didn't believe what they were saying.
- Of young people who were accessing mental health support in the three months leading up to lockdown, nearly one-third were no longer able to access that support but still needed it; while 40% were struggling with their mental health but had not looked for support due to not wanting to burden services, not having privacy at home or feeling ashamed.

Yotta Energy, a clean energy startup from Austin, Texas, has been establishing itself as a force in the Solar market since its inception in 2017. The company’s latest product (the Yotta REV) aims to provide off-grid charging for electric vehicles (EVs) across the US.

The REV is a deployable EV charger that is entirely powered by solar, using bifacial solar modules, and is grid-optional. It comes in three options: Slant, Core, and Core XL, with varying solar arrays and battery storage capacities.

REV Core has already been deployed in several locations in the US and has a variety of potential applications, including serving as a power generation facility during natural disasters or grid outages.

The National Park Service and municipalities preparing for the growth of electric vehicles have expressed interest in the company’s product.

Designers, manufacturers, and clients are increasingly making sustainable choices for lighting design. This contributes to a circular economy that reduces waste, pollution, and material devaluation.

The importance of considering the full environmental impact of lighting products cannot be understated, so it’s vital to ensure that characteristics specified in lighting design include sustainability and circular economy considerations.

It is imperative that a point is reached where the most sustainable approach is not the most expensive to adopt, and to work towards adopting the mentality that a renewed product is as good as new.

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. As we mark the occasion, we must acknowledge that despite some progress in recent years, there is still ample evidence of discrimination and unequal opportunities that affect the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals. Nobody should face persecution, be kind, be supportive. 🏳️‍🌈

The Welsh Government has proposed new targets for renewable energy, aiming to have at least 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity locally owned by 2035 (excluding heat pumps) and a target of 5.5 GW of renewable energy capacity to be produced by heat pumps by 2035.

The proposed targets aim to enable Wales to meet 100% of its annual electricity consumption from renewable electricity by 2035. This expands on progress already made since 2017 with Wales currently generating 55% of its electricity from renewable sources.

Climate Change Minister Julie James has today (Tuesday, January 24) published a consultation on ‘ambitious but credible’ targets for Wales to meet 100% of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2035.

Portland General Electric Company (NYSE: POR) has announced the procurement of 400 megawatts (MWac) of new battery storage projects - the largest standalone energy storage purchase by a utility in the U.S. outside California!

These battery storage projects, located at substations close to electrical demand, will provide enough electricity to power all PGE customer homes in a city the size of Portland for an entire evening on battery-delivered energy alone.

They are designed to address grid challenges and provide flexibility to PGE's grid operators to meet changing conditions, manage costs, and reduce dependence on energy markets and fossil fuel generation.

ChargeUK (a new trade association comprising of 18 companies including Shell, bp pulse, GRIDSERVE and Osprey) has pledged to invest over £6bn ($8.3bn) into installing and operating new electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the UK by 2030.

The group aims to double the size of the UK's EV charging network through 2023 and will work with the UK government and other stakeholders to break down barriers and shape the policies and regulation needed to enable the transition to EVs.

At the start of the year, the UK had 37,055 public EV charging devices, of which 6,887 were 'rapid' devices and 21,255 were rated 'fast' chargers, according to the Department for Transport.

A new trade association has been launched with a pledge to invest over £6bn into installing and operating new EV charging infrastructure by 2030.

In the first quarter of 2023, more than 50,700 UK households installed rooftop solar panels - the highest number in over seven years - as people seek to reduce energy bills.

The installed panels generate 265 megawatts of power, equivalent to half that of a typical coal-fired unit. The increase is attributed to rising energy bills and greater awareness of the environmental benefits of renewable energy.

The figures were recorded by installers registered with the UK’s micro-generation certification scheme (MCS) and are likely to be higher in reality as the tally does not include work undertaken by unaccredited installers.
