I know we have many local photographers here in Gravesend who shoot along our riverfront - the Thames Lens contest is NOW OPEN

The annual Thames Lens photography competition is now open for entries! 📷

This year also features a new category dedicated to short films.

Submissions must fit to one of six themes:

⚓ Today is Trafalgar Day ⚓

Celebrated on 21 October each year across the United Kingdom and parts of the Commonwealth, today commemorates the Royal Navy’s monumental victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

To mark the occasion, we are sharing some more fantastic images taken the weekend before last, when Gravesend Cadets proudly hosted the mass community of the West Kent Sea Cadets for the annual Trafalgar Parade.

It was an incredible sight as the parade marched proudly through the town centre to St George's Church.

Because this prestigious event rotates and is hosted around the region, it is highly unlikely we will get this amazing opportunity again in our borough until 2037!

A huge well done to all the cadets who took part and represented our community so brilliantly. 👏🇬🇧

🚂 Train enthusiasts of all ages are being invited to the Gravesend Model Railway Show this weekend.

The event takes place at St George’s Church Hall, Church Street, Gravesend, on Saturday, October 24, from 10am to 4.30pm.

👧 Children accompanied by an adult can attend for FREE, meaning one adult can bring several children for just £6.

There will be a huge variety of model railway layouts, featuring steam, diesel and electric trains from around the world.

🛍️ There will also be stalls selling model railway items, six preservation and railway society stands, and someone on hand to help if your model train is having problems.

☕ With snacks, hot and cold food and plenty to entertain both young and old, organisers promise a friendly atmosphere throughout the day.

It's your final chance of the year to see Waverley Excursions in this weekend - she'll be at the pontoon around 5pm tonight (Fri 9th) heading to London.

She'll be back here tomorrow (Sat 10th) around 1130am to load before heading to Southend - then she'll be back at Gravesend Saturday around 6pm before heading back up to London

Sunday 11th - around 5pm she arrives here, after a day at Rochester, Margate & Whitstable, for the final time on its last London Tower Bridge cruise of the season.
