Mental Health Awareness Week! (9th-15th May 2022)
One in four adults feel lonely some or all of the time. There’s no single cause and there’s no one solution. After all, we’re all different! But, the longer we feel lonely, the more we are at risk of mental health problems. Some people are also at higher risk of feeling lonely than others.

Mental Health Awareness Week (9th-15th May) – This year focuses on loneliness!

The pandemic brought us all closer to loneliness. Loneliness has tremendous effects on one’s mental health. Long-term loneliness is linked to poor physical health and higher mortality rate. Some tips to fight loneliness:

- Be kind to others: schedule a time in your calendar to help others such as checking on your elder neighbors or volunteering within the community.
- Rediscover a hobby: spending time getting lost in something you enjoy can improve one’s overall feeling of loneliness.
- Moving has a host of benefits, including helping you beat the blues of loneliness. Try dance, yoga, or going for a walk, or find an exercise class online. Staying active can help with depression, anxiety, stress, and a host of other things that can come with being lonely.

Stress can affects us all, either in personal life or professional. Therefore, it is important to know how to manage your stress levels.

Here are top three tips of how to manage stress:

1. Be Active
Exercise can reduce some of the emotional intensity that you're feeling, clearing your thoughts and letting you deal with your problems more calmly.

2. Take Control
It is important to constantly use the ‘I can do’ attitude.

3. Connect with people
A good support network of colleagues, friends and family can ease your work troubles and help you see things in a different way.

Today's tip is to be used after a long day!
Unplug - Turn off all distractions and move to a comforting space
Reboot - 30 seconds to let go of any stresses and tell yourself the day is over
Recharge - 3 minutes to be still and notice any sounds, smells and sights around you
Maintenance - 30 minutes to do something that brings you joy and helps you unwind.

Stress awareness month is important as it informs us about the dangers of stress but also successful coping strategies. The campaign started in 1992 and is still going strong.
Instead of reminding you that exercise is good for you we say it's good to channel your energy! Anything that gets you moving counts.
