Right to work rules changed today. Here's what it means for care providers 👇
From 1 October 2026, the legal duty to carry out right to work checks has expanded beyond employees to formally include agency workers, contractors and some platform-based roles, and businesses using them are expected to make sure those checks have been done. Good agencies have always checked, but now the law makes it explicit.
For providers who use agency support, there are two questions worth asking:
✅ Can you be confident that every person working in your service has had a proper right to work check?
✅ Can you be sure the person who arrives for the shift is the same person who was checked?
At Take Five Healthcare, we can answer yes to both.
🔹 Right to work is checked using the correct Home Office process, including online verification through TrustID, a certified provider on the government's digital verification register
🔹 Every carer then attends a welcome meeting at our office, where we meet them in person and inspect their original documents
🔹 Enhanced DBS checks, with no placement made until the certificate is received, and references obtained directly by our team
🔹 Training combines Care Certificate-aligned e-learning with face-to-face Moving & Handling from a qualified trainer
🔹 Training renewals and DBS updates are tracked for as long as someone works with us, not just on day one
🔹 Before a new carer arrives, you receive their full member profile, including compliance dates, DBS number and training record
🔹 We match carers to the setting, so you get the right person rather than whoever happens to be free
Good agency support should strengthen your compliance, never put it at risk. These changes are a positive step for the whole sector, and we're proud that the way we already work fits them.
Not sure if your current agency is doing it right? For peace of mind, get in touch with Take Five and let's talk about how we can support you.
