We are looking for an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join a lovely primary school in Liverpool!

This is your chance to earn while you learn and gain a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification – all while gaining hands-on experience in a real school.

You could be working with children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, helping them learn, grow in confidence and enjoy their time at school.

No two days will be the same! You could be:

📚 Supporting children with reading and learning

🙋 Helping children build confidence and independence

Are you an A Level achiever with a clean driving licence, a practical mindset and an interest in energy, sustainability and how buildings work?

🎓 GCSE Results Day is here!

Whatever is in that envelope today, remember this:
Your GCSE results are a milestone – not a definition of your potential.
If you are 16 and wondering “What next?”, there is more than one answer.

You could choose:
📚 A Levels – an academic route towards further study and university.
🛠️ BTECs or other vocational courses – more practical, hands-on learning linked to specific sectors.
🔧 T Levels – technical study combined with substantial industry experience.
💼 Apprenticeships – a real job, a salary, training and a qualification. You earn while you learn and start building workplace experience straight away.
🌱 Foundation Apprenticeships or other stepping-stone programmes – for those who need a little more time, confidence or experience before moving into their next stage.

And if you did not get the grades you hoped for?
Breathe. Do not panic.

There are resits, alternative courses, Functional Skills and different routes into employment and further education.

One set of results does not close every door. In fact, sometimes it simply means you take a different route to get where you want to go.

SWAC’s biggest piece of advice?

Do not choose a pathway because you think it is the “right” one. Choose the pathway that is right for YOU.

Be curious. Ask questions. Explore your options.

A Level Results Day is here.

For some, it is a day of celebrations. For others, it might be a day of “Right…what do I do now?” 😬

And that is completely okay.

If university is not your plan - or if you are simply considering your options then apprenticeships are absolutely worth exploring.

Here is our Guide to applying for an apprenticeship 👇

1️⃣ Apprenticeship vacancies:
Apprenticeship vacancies are advertised throughout the year, and some employers recruit months before the start date.
Keep looking. Keep applying.

2️⃣ Do not dismiss an apprenticeship because you do not have experience:
You are not expected to have years of workplace experience at 17 or 18!
Employers are looking for potential. Think about your school, college, part-time job, volunteering, sports, hobbies and responsibilities.
What have you learned from them?

3️⃣ Read the vacancy properly:
Do not just look at the job title.
Look at:
👉 The skills they are asking for
👉 The qualifications
👉 The behaviours they want
👉 What the actual job involves
Then make your application answer their questions.

4️⃣ Tailor your application:
Please, please do not send the same application to 15 employers (especially don't leave the other company's name in there...)
If you want the job, show them why you want that job.
A good application makes the employer think:
"This person has actually read our vacancy."

5️⃣ Do your homework before an interview:
Research the employer.
Know what they do. Know something about their sector. Have a few questions ready.
And please do not say:
"No, I do not have any questions." 😬
You absolutely do.

6️⃣ Be yourself:
You do not need to sound like a corporate robot.
Employers know you are at the beginning of your career.
They are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, willing to learn, reliable and able to communicate.

7️⃣ Do not be put off by rejection:
This one is important.
You may not get the first apprenticeship you apply for.
Or the second.
That does not mean you are not good enough.
Every application and interview is experience. Learn from it and keep going.

And finally…

8️⃣ Remember what an apprenticeship actually is:
You are not choosing between “going to university” and “getting a job.”
An apprenticeship is a job + training + a qualification + real workplace experience.
You earn while you learn.
And you start building your career from day one.

So, if you are getting your A Level results today and wondering “What next?”
Take a breath.
There is more than one route to a successful career.
And sometimes the less traditional route is actually the one that gets you exactly where you want to go. 🚀

Here's some steps to help you secure an apprenticeship:

Step 1
Understanding Apprenticeships!
Before diving into applications, get to grips with what apprenticeships actually involve. A great place to start? The Skills England and their Occupational Maps.

Step 2
Finding an Apprenticeship Vacancy
Now for the harder part - actually finding the vacancies. Apprenticeships are competitive, so casting a wide net is key! Register on the Government’s ‘Find an
Apprenticeship’ site (and set up alerts!)

Sign up to job boards like Indeed and UCAS
and, again, set alerts:
Research big employers - Not all companies list their vacancies on job boards! .
Look at local training providers and FE colleges

Step 3
Standing Out from the Crowd
Here’s where most applicants slip up, they think qualifications alone will land them the role! Employers aren’t just looking for good grades; they want:
Human skills - teamwork, communication, problem solving, customer service
A genuine passion to learn
An interest in their company & industry
A great attitude and ability to fit into their team

Tip
Research the company. Not just what they do, but their values and mission. Show them why you want to be part of their team!
