Last week, we were delighted to attend the City of Glasgow College event - The Launch of the Maritime Simulation Hub. This was a gathering of maritime professionals, educators, and technology innovators to celebrate the opening of a dedicated facility for advanced simulation-based training.
The event showcased state-of-the-art bridge and ship-handling simulators, offered demonstrations of navigational and crew resource management exercises, and facilitated discussions around how immersive simulation can enhance safety, skills, and workforce readiness in the maritime industry.
Attendees had the opportunity to see how simulation can replicate challenging maritime scenarios in a controlled environment, supporting both education and industry in driving forward best practices and innovation.
Speakers included Dr Paul Little, Principal & CEO of City of Glasgow College; Chris Keenan, Dean of Nautical and STEM; Neil Bennett of Wärtsilä; Kathryn Neilson of the Merchant Navy Training Board; and Kirk MacRae, Lecturer at City of Glasgow College and a representative of the MCA, each sharing their insights on the importance of innovation, training, and collaboration for the sector’s future.
