⭐ Senior BESS Maintenance Manager ⭐

The position of Senior Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Maintenance Manager presents an opportunity to develop the O&M function within our fast-growing SMS Grid Scale Energy Storage (GSES) department. Reporting to the Technology Director of GSES, the Senior Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the Operations and Maintenance services provided by third party Operations and Maintenance (O&M) providers on SMS’ grid scale battery storage projects.

The role will work extensively with our key stakeholders within the Battery Energy Storage (BESS) team, including:

✅Acquisitions
✅Development
✅Engineering
✅Construction
✅Contract & Commercial

Plus wider stakeholders to ensure that any factors that impact the effective operation of our BESS assets are understood and actively managed.

The role will also be responsible for ensuring that our service providers perform fully and in line with our contractual arrangements and that we are working collaboratively with them to ensure we are utilising the full potential of their service offering. SMS plans to be the amongst the lead owners and operators of Grid Scale Energy Storage projects in Great Britain within the next four years, with a confirmed pipeline of 720 MW and a wider pipeline beyond that.


Work Schedule - Monday - Friday , Home based with visits to site as and when required. 37.5 contractual hours per week. The position requires the ability to travel within the UK, therefore a full UK driver’s license is required for this role . Car allowance will be provided as part of the role.

Job title - Operations Support Assistant - Emergencies
Location - Glasgow Head office (City Centre based & Hybrid working)

A hard working, motivated and experienced individual is required to be part of our Gas Emergencies team on a 6 month fixed term basis to support our busy winter period.

The successful candidate will be working in a fast paced, ever changing working environment with multiple priorities and targets. This would include responding to customer/supplier enquiries regarding all aspects of emergency jobs, providing information and support to suppliers and customers whilst always providing a high standard of Customer Service.

Working hours are between 8-4.30pm Monday to Friday. Salary is £23,084pa

Key responsibilities:

✅ Raising emergency job requests received by email or calls
✅ Handling a high volume inbound calls
✅ Managing high volume of email queries effectively
✅ To manage and implement the processes relevant to each supplier
✅ Providing information to Suppliers on request
✅ Liaising with internal department teams regarding emergency jobs sent for dispatch

Job title - Finance Assistant

This is an exciting opportunity for a finance assistant to join a fast-paced environment and be part of the Financial Control Team.

The finance assistant will be a key member of the team and will assist with day-to-day duties primarily around bank and cash processes.

This role supports the finance business function, liaising with some external stakeholders and internal staff across various entities within the SMS group. The role provides an opportunity to further your career with study support, embarking initially on AAT training, and progress to an ACCA /CIMA qualification.

Due to the transitional nature of the business, flexibility to work in different areas may be required from time to time and will offer opportunities for progression as the business grows.

Job title - Lead Assurance Auditor
Location - Hybrid working Monday to Friday. This could be from our Cardiff , Glasgow or Doncaster office.

To fulfill this role; travel to other SMS sites is essential, therefore, a full and current driving license and access to a vehicle is required.

This is an opportunity for an experienced auditor who has the drive to influence change. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and will be integral to ongoing projects and process standardisation following recent acquisitions. This position is part of the wider SHEQ function and is key in maintaining the groups’ ISO certification.

Key responsibilities:

✅ Lead the development of the IMS audit schedule, using a risk-based approach.
✅ Lead and manage IMS audits (end to end), often in complex risk areas.
✅Report on the effectiveness of policies, systems, processes, and procedures, making recommendations for improvements and developing action plans.
✅Monitor and report on action plans to ensure that they are implemented effectively and within agreed timescales (for both internal and external audits).
✅Drive continuous improvement, through recommended changes to business operations, processes, and system enhancements.
