Marketing is changing, but the qualities businesses value haven’t.
The tools and channels may evolve, but the fundamentals remain the same.
There’s plenty of conversation around AI, automation and new technology, and of course, those skills matter.
When we speak to businesses about senior marketing hires, the same qualities consistently come up, someone who can think commercially, use strategic judgement, understand the customer, influence those around them and, ultimately, turn marketing activity into something that genuinely moves the business forward.
The tools will continue to change. The ability to think commercially won’t.
For us, that’s why a strong marketing CV is only part of the picture when we’re headhunting.
The more important question is:
Can this person make a difference to this particular business?
That’s often where the best hires are found.
