It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, an important opportunity to recognise the people behind the programmes, operations and critical decisions that keep the defence sector moving 💚
In Defence, Aerospace and National Security, resilience is often expected. But the reality is that many professionals operate in high-pressure environments shaped by tight deadlines, long hours, constant responsibility and operational demands that can take a real toll on mental wellbeing.
Recent UK Ministry of Defence data shows that mental health support referrals across the Armed Forces continue to rise, with anxiety, depressive episodes and adjustment disorders among the most common conditions being treated. Research from King’s College London also highlights that common mental health disorders are more prevalent among serving personnel and veterans than in the wider population, particularly for those exposed to combat or prolonged operational stress.
At Evodia, we work closely with organisations and professionals across the defence and national security sectors. We understand that delivering high performance starts with supporting the people behind it.
Mental health support isn’t simply about responding in times of crisis, it’s about creating workplace cultures where people feel able to speak openly, ask for help and support one another without stigma.
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to:
💚 Check in with colleagues, not just on performance but wellbeing
💚 Create environments where conversations are encouraged
💚 Recognise the impact of pressure, uncertainty and operational demands
💚 Prioritise sustainable, healthy ways of working
Strong teams are built on trust, support and psychological safety as much as technical capability.
