🎒 Back to school for the children... back to work for the rest of us!

Whether you've just dropped the little ones off at the school gates for the first time this term, or you're back at your desk after some well-earned time off, this week has a bit of a 'reset' feeling to it for everyone.

Let's be honest - by the end of the summer holidays, most parents are counting down the days until routine kicks back in. The juggling, the entertaining, the 'I'm bored' x 100 a day... it's a lot, and September can't come quick enough.

But then the school gates close, you head back to your own desk, and there's a split second where it hits you: Summer is over, same job, same routine, same old!

Funny thing about the summer holidays - a bit of downtime often gives us space to think about the bigger stuff. Like whether the job we go back to each September is actually the one we want to be in. It's a strange contrast where you're relieved for the routine to be back, but not exactly buzzing to get back to the job itself. And if that's you this week, you're really not alone.

We chat to people all the time who've used their summer break to realise it might be time for a change. If summer left you with more questions than answers about your career, maybe September is the month to actually do something about it. What should you actually wear to an office interview? 👔

One of the questions we get asked a lot! And while there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, our advice is: it's less about 'smart vs casual' and more on matching the vibe of the company. Dress for the company, but always aim to look polished and professional.

A good rule of thumb: dress one step smarter than what the team actually wears day-to-day. Clean, well-fitted, and comfortable.

And if you're ever unsure? Just ask the recruiter or hiring manager what the dress code is. It's a completely normal question, and it actually makes a good impression. If in doubt - go slightly smarter. You can always take off a blazer if the environment is more casual, but you can't suddenly make an outfit smarter!

✅ Do:
Clean, ironed, well-fitted clothes
Neutral or understated colours: navy, black, cream, grey, beige, burgundy
Comfortable shoes you can actually walk in

❌ Don't:
Strong perfume/aftershave
Brand new shoes you haven't broken in
Jeans, unless you've been specifically told they're fine
Trainers (unless they're clearly appropriate for the company)
Anything uncomfortable or distracting
Clothes that need constant adjusting

🍪 Accept a role and then change your mind without telling us.
