Is hospitality's Black Friday moving?

For years, the Friday before Christmas was the single biggest night in hospitality.

Every venue bracing for the chaos - bar staff, chefs, floor teams, all hands on deck.

But this year? We're seeing something different.

At Flexible Workforce Solutions, based on client bookings and our shift patterns across Edinburgh and Glasgow, the real peak looks like 12 December, nearly two weeks earlier.

Are office parties moving earlier to dodge the Christmas week chaos?
Or has Christmas quietly stretched into a season, not a single crunch weekend?

I'm curious what other operators are seeing. Are your big bookings shifting earlier in December? Spreading out more evenly? Or still stacked on that traditional final Friday?

Because if the pattern's genuinely changing, venues need to plan staffing differently.

If the 12th is the new peak, we're ready for it. Our rotas are filling fast but we've still got experienced kitchen and FOH staff available for any December date that matters to you.

📣 Recruiting for Sous Chefs across Edinburgh and Lothians 📣
Flexible Workforce Solutions recruiting on behalf of a well established client with properties across the Lothians. These particular 2 properties have a great head chef on site already with a long serving brigade of staff.
We are looking for a Sous Chef or a Junior Sous Chef ready to take their next step and support the Head Chef onsite, help to mentor a team of enthusiastic junior colleagues, and be part of a team achieving consistently great standards and always pushing on.

💰 Basic salary £35k
💰 Tips/ tronc circa £6k per year
⌛ 45-48 hour per week, genuine hours and usually finishing around 9pm
