We had a brilliant site visit this morning to Teesside University’s BIOS and their new facility, Digital Life, organised by G4C Tees Valley.
The BIOS recently won the Constructing Excellence National Building Project of the Year award and received a highly commended in the Integration & Collaborative Working category. It’s a fantastic facility showcasing the University’s high-quality, leading-edge laboratories for sciences and clinical subjects, including anatomy, pharmacy, microbiology, chemistry, Earth sciences, and food sciences.
After seeing the completed BIOS building, we headed over to Digital Life, which is due to be finished in Spring 2025. This facility will house training courses for gaming and coding, as well as a 700+ seating lecture theatre. Digital Life is starting to enter the final stages of the build process and will be an innovative research, teaching, and learning facility for the School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies, demonstrating the University’s commitment to a responsible and sustainable digital future.
Special thanks to Dan Dodsworth Freddie Whitehead from Wates for facilitating the tour and sharing your journey on the projects (and of course the tasty breakfast butties), and Jill Thompson from the university for hosting us and explaining what the Clients drivers were for the project and how the team worked really well together through their partnership through construction and beyond.
It was wonderful to meet everyone and witness the promising future of the construction sector in the North East!
