From charity shops and food banks to youth clubs, schools, sports teams, community events and local causes, volunteers make a huge difference.

And when a business gets involved in the community, it says something too.

Volunteering experience can say a lot about a person.

It might not always come with a job title or a payslip, but it can show some really valuable things.

Things like reliability, kindness, confidence, teamwork, patience and a willingness to get stuck in.

We meet candidates who have volunteered in all sorts of places, from charity shops and schools to community groups, sports clubs and local events.

Sometimes that experience has helped them build confidence, learn new skills or take the first step back into work.

If you are an employer, it is worth asking candidates about any volunteering they have done.

And if you are looking for work, do not leave it off your CV just because it was unpaid.

It still matters.
