Did you know in the UK school age children typically get 13 weeks holidays spread across the year? That's A LOT of time off! Beneficial if you’re a teacher, but a nightmare to find and fund child care for most.

Many working parents rely on their annual leave, holiday clubs, family or friends, and some parents have to book alternate time off from their partner to ensure childcare is covered. Not everyone has the luxury of free childcare from someone they know or a partner to rely on, so it can be a huge expense to pay out for clubs.

Even with the bank holidays thrown in during May and August, there just isn’t enough annual leave to cover half term holidays, around 5.6 weeks of holiday for a full timer, and at least 16.8 days’ for a 3 day a week part time worker.

Depending on the size of your department and the work you do, companies usually limit the amount of staff that can be off at one time meaning if your co-workers also have children, there’s not always the guarantee you’ll get the time off you need.
