What if the best decision you ever made… wasn’t even in your plan?

Meet Liyah Mohammed, a 22-year-old finance graduate who joined Laing O’Rourke’s Graduate Development Programme in September 2024, and a year on, she’s still going strong.

She didn’t come from a construction background. She didn’t expect to land in finance. But she said yes to opportunity, and it changed everything.

“I tried something new — and here I am,” Liyah says. “The people here genuinely wanted to help me grow. That meant more than anything else I had planned.”

Her advice? Try everything. Let people know you’re open. And don’t underestimate the power of soft skills, they might be your strongest asset.

Meet Josh Hardy, a UK Graduate at Laing O’Rourke who joined the team in September 2025 as a Learning Experience Associate. He’s helping design the company’s new skills framework, defining how people grow across every function.

From day one, what stood out to Josh wasn’t just the work, but the culture.

“From minute one, you feel those values,” he says. “Not just from the leaders, but from every level downwards.”

He takes real pride in knowing that while he’s not on the building site, his work helps enable the delivery of projects that shape communities.

Louis Arnold developed the business case for the use of laser-cutting technology in Crown House Technologies Manufacturing's (CHtM) steelwork process.

Improving precision and lowering emissions, Louis is shaping the future of construction. He has made a real impact - turning complex designs into safe, buildable solutions that transform places and communities.

From being the primary coordinator on one of our prison projects, to cutting costs through smarter material use and supplier negotiations, Louis has developed his skills, building on his Civil Engineering degree; putting his education into action.

Anni Bagdi found a problem that could've shut down the Oxford Pandemic Sciences site. She didn't find it on-site. She found it in the digital model, before anyone picked up a tool.

As an Assistant Digital Engineer at Laing O'Rourke, Anni's already:
- Running clash detection on temporary works packages
- Performing vehicle tracking for site logistics
- Presenting in Digital Build review meetings with technical leads

Her clash detection work caught issues before site ex*****on - preventing delays, avoiding rework, and most importantly, maintaining safety.

From graduate to leading real work in months. That's what surprised her about Laing O'Rourke.
