Part 2
Apologies for not posting as promised in our first part. We wanted to do a little more research before posting. Today we will tackle what a nurse who has been trained outside of the United Kingdom needs in order to work here.
The journey first begins by you realising that your dream is work and live in the United Kingdom. Why? Simply because it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world . From the streets, museums and Art galleries of london to the sand beaches of portrush in northern ireland. From the beautiful castles in Edinburgh to the beautiful geographical landscape in Wales. The United Kingdom is simply a beautiful country to live in.
The prerequisite to the whole jounery is that one must have qualified as a registered nurse in the country they are living in. They should be holders of either a nursing diploma or higher and be holders of a nursing practice licence.
The second requirement is to have the academic module of the English language test known as IELTS UKVI. IELTS stand for International English Language Testing System. One must achieve atleast a score of 7 in reading, listening and speaking, and atleast 6.5 for writting. The alterantive to IELTS is OET (Occupational English Test). One needs to score atleast a B in reading, listening and speaking and atleast a C writting.
After achieving the IELTS or OET scores required. The next step is to take a computer based test.(CBT). The CBT includes items written at various cognitive levels, which are designed to test your knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation of professional nursing and midwifery practice. An applicant must score at least 68% in overall aggregate of both Part A and Part B. For Part A out of 15 questions, 14 are to be answered correctly i.e., 90% passing score is necessary.
After passing all these tests, the next step is to apply to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The Nursing and Midwifery Council is the regulator for nursing and midwifery professions in the UK. The NMC maintains a register of all nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses and nursing associates eligible to practise within the UK.
Once all this is done. One has to apply for a Visa. The next article will cover what comes after the visa application.
