Sometimes it's the things you've never heard of that teach you the biggest lessons.

This Week in the Office 🌊

This week's lesson didn't happen in the office...

It happened at the beach.

Paula took her granddaughter Hallie for a day by the sea, enjoying the sunshine and warm water... until Hallie suddenly stood on a weever fish.

We'd never even heard of one.

Apparently, they're found around UK beaches and although stings aren't uncommon, many people don't know they exist. The pain can be intense, but thankfully the lifeguards knew exactly what to do.

The advice? Immerse the affected foot in hot (not scalding) water for around 30–90 minutes. The heat helps break down the venom and ease the pain.

It got us talking in the office about something that's just as important in business...

You don't always know what challenge is around the corner.

Whether it's an unexpected absence, a last-minute vacancy or a problem you didn't see coming, being prepared—and having the right people to turn to—can make all the difference.

Thankfully Hallie was in safe hands, and after plenty of reassurance (and a very brave smile!) she was back enjoying the rest of her day.

Sometimes it's the things you've never heard of that teach you the biggest lessons.

Has anyone else experienced a weever fish sting?

Adult Care

It's all about the people
Working in adult care is about so much more than filling shifts. It’s about having the right people around those who rely on care and support every day.
Good care staff bring patience, kindness, understanding and, sometimes most importantly, a good sense of humour! 😊
We’ve seen how much difference the right person can make within a care setting, not just for the people being supported, but for the whole team.

I know from first-hand experience how much of a difference a great carer can make. When my Dad was receiving care, the carer's were so warm and happy, and they made him feel valued, listened to and heard.
Sometimes it’s the simplest things that can completely change someone’s day — making them smile, having a laugh together, putting on their favourite song and even having a little dance.
That’s what I love about care.

Love you miss you Dad.

🌻 Growing a business is a lot like growing a sunflower.

When we first moved into our home, our neighbour gave my granddaughter Bella a tiny sunflower plant. At the time, it was easy to overlook. It didn’t look like much, but with the right care, patience, and a little support, look at it now

Building a business is exactly the same.

Every successful company starts small. There are days when progress feels slow, moments when you question whether all the effort is worth it, and times when growth isn’t immediately visible.

But if you keep showing up…

🌱 Stay consistent.

šŸ’§ Keep investing your time and energy.

ā˜€ļø Surround yourself with supportive people.

One day you’ll look back and realise just how far you’ve come.

A huge thank you to my neighbour for giving us this little sunflower. It has become a lovely reminder that great things don’t happen overnight—they grow one day at a time.

What’s one small step you took that helped your business grow into something bigger.

Does anyone else have a giant sunflower? 🌻 Mine has grown so tall this year! I'd love to see yours if you've got one too.

This Week in the Office ā˜€ļø

The first week of the summer holidays is here, and for many businesses it's one of the busiest times of the year for workforce planning.

This week, our focus has been helping clients stay one step ahead by securing holiday cover, filling last-minute absences and ensuring operations continue without disruption.

From Early Years settings maintaining ratios, to manufacturers, warehouses and engineering businesses keeping production moving, every sector faces its own staffing challenges over the summer.

At Karson Recruitment, we know that behind every vacancy is a business relying on the right person being in the right place at the right time.

While many people are enjoying a well-earned break, we're here making sure our clients have the people they need to keep moving.

Wishing everyone a fantastic start to the summer holidays. If your business needs temporary, ongoing or permanent recruitment support, we're only a phone call away.

Class of 2026

As another academic year comes to an end, we would like to recognise the commitment of everyone working across the Early Years sector.

Transitions are an important milestone for children and families. Whether children are moving into a new room, starting preschool or preparing for primary school, these moments are supported by the dedication, patience and professionalism of Early Years practitioners every day.

At the same time, the summer period often brings its own challenges for nurseries, with annual leave, changing occupancy levels and the need for additional staffing.

Karson Recruitment continues to support nurseries across the region with experienced Early Years professionals for both short-term cover and permanent vacancies, helping settings maintain continuity of care throughout the summer months.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026, and thank you to everyone working in Early Years for the difference you make every day.

If your setting needs additional support over the summer, we're here to help.

This Week in the Office at Karson
Recruitment can be fast paced, stressful, unpredictable… and sometimes completely random.
This week, Paula was messaging a client and said:
ā€œMy battery’s low and my phone’s slowā€¦ā€
Karen misheard and replied:
ā€œWho’s Slowin?ā€
For a good few minutes, Karen genuinely thought there was a client or candidate called Slowin that she’d somehow never heard of.
And from that moment on… ā€œSlowinā€ became the word of the day.
Emails running slow?
ā€œMust be Slowin.ā€
Then came aqua aerobics after work — our way to unwind and switch off for a bit. Great for mental health, a good laugh, and definitely needed after busy day.
As everyone slowly entered the pool, Paula and Karen looked at each other and at the exact same time said…
ā€œSlowin.ā€
Amongst the deadlines, shifts, calls, bookings, CVs and chaos… sometimes the best moments are the silly ones that make you stop and laugh.
And honestly, those moments matter too šŸ’™

This Week in the Office at Karson - Shout out to Parents and Carers.

With half term approaching next week, many working parents will be trying to balance childcare, work commitments, school closures and rising costs — all while still showing up every day.

Meanwhile, recruitment teams and businesses are preparing for:
Panic bookings
Shift swaps
Holiday cover
Last-minute sickness calls
And keeping operations running smoothly

For businesses, it’s a reminder that flexibility, communication and understanding in the workplace matter more than ever.
Sometimes supporting staff isn’t about big gestures.
It’s simply recognising that people have lives outside of work too.

At Karson Recruitment, we understand that behind every rota, CV and shift is a real person.

Wishing all working parents and carers a smooth half term week

This Week in the Office at Karson Recruitment šŸ’™
Mental Health Awareness Week… because people matter. Not just this week… every day.

In recruitment, we talk a lot about filling vacancies, meeting deadlines, and keeping operations moving…

But behind every shift, every CV, and every placement… there’s a person.

At Karson Recruitment Ltd, we believe supporting our workforce goes far beyond finding someone a job.

It means:

šŸ’™ Regular wellbeing check-ins
šŸ’™ Picking up the phone, not just sending a text
šŸ’™ Creating a safe space for honest conversations
šŸ’™ Supporting staff when life feels overwhelming
šŸ’™ Helping good people stay in work when they may otherwise struggle alone

We’ve seen first-hand that sometimes a simple ā€œHow are you really doing?ā€ can make all the difference.

Mental health isn’t a campaign.
It isn’t a tick-box.
And it certainly isn’t just one week in May.

It matters every single day.

At Karson Recruitment, we’re finding the best hiring still happens when technology supports relationships… not replaces them.
This week in the office at Karson Recruitment
AI can screen CVs in seconds.
Applications can be sent with one click.
Interview slots can be booked automatically.
So why are candidates still disappearing?
One minute…
"This role looks perfect."
"Yes, I’m available this week."
"Sounds great—send me the details."
Then… silence.
In today’s market, candidates aren’t always ghosting…
Sometimes they’re:
Receiving 5 interview invites at once
Being screened by AI before speaking to a human
Losing interest in slow hiring processes
Choosing the company that feels most human
The reality in 2026?
Technology can speed up hiring…
But people still choose people.
Employers — are you losing good candidates because your process is too slow?
Candidates — what makes you disengage from a hiring process in 2026?
