⭐ It's Volunteers' Week (1–7 June) and we wanted to highlight one of our fabulous volunteers! ⭐
Oliver accessed support from the Job Shop after returning to the UK from Italy. During this time, he was struggling to find employment, which affected his confidence. With support from his Employment Coach, he was encouraged to take up a volunteering opportunity on our customer service desk, where he gained valuable experience, developed new skills, and rebuilt his confidence.
Using the skills and experience he gained, Oliver secured an apprenticeship through our Changing Futures Together programme and has since made a real difference in supporting young people facing barriers to employment.
Oliver said: “When I came back to the UK, I was low in confidence and didn’t know where to turn. Through volunteering at the Job Shop, I gained the confidence and experience I needed to follow my passion for supporting people. It made me think about the career I wanted and led me to the Job Shop’s Changing Futures Together programme, which supports young people with barriers to employment. I was able to use everything I had learned through volunteering to secure an apprenticeship. I often look back on my volunteering days because it really set the foundations for my future.”
His dedication and commitment have even seen him nominated for an Apprenticeship Award in the Nurture and Support category! ⭐
