10 years ago, Robert joined Hutchinson as an apprentice.

Today, he’s our Business Improvement Manager.

Robert started with a passion for hands-on learning and completed a two-year apprenticeship while earning a BTEC Level 3 in Manufacturing & Mechanical Engineering.

Over the years, working across teams gave him a real understanding of how the business fits together, from shop floor to strategy.

Now, he leads improvement initiatives across the company, working with everyone from directors to production teams to make our processes better, every day.

Robert’s journey is an example of what’s possible when people are given the right support, trust and opportunities to grow.

The BBC are looking for passionate, creative people who want to learn how great content is made. As a Production Apprentice, you’ll work behind the scenes at BBC Radio Foyle—home to the Mark Patterson Show, Foyle’s flagship daily programme, and Sunday with Anna Curran.

✨ What you’ll be doing:
• Developing production skills in speech radio and studio management
• Learning hands-on editorial and technical audio skills
• Helping create content for social platforms
• Researching, assisting with live programmes, and supporting outside broadcasts
• Working towards a Level 3 Production Assistant qualification through a mix of on-the-job learning and training blocks

You don’t need previous qualifications or a degree—this scheme is aimed at non-graduates. They want people who have:
