A placement isn't successful because somebody accepts the job.

It's successful when the person is still the right fit once the interviews are over and the real work begins.

That is why I pay attention to more than salary and skills when I'm recruiting.

Expectations matter.
Working style matters.
The manager matters.
The environment matters.
What the candidate actually wants next matters.

You can't remove every risk from hiring.

But you can ask better questions before making the introduction.

October often brings a change of pace in recruitment.

Summer holidays are over, businesses refocus on year-end plans and people who have spent the summer thinking about a move start acting on it.

For employers, my advice is not to treat that as a reason to rush.

If a role matters enough to recruit, it matters enough to define properly before it goes to market.

- What does the person genuinely need to deliver?
- Which skills are essential?
- What can be taught?
- Why would the right candidate choose your business?

A candidate database is only useful if you know who's in it. 👥
