Have you ever wondered what employees truly value in the workplace? A recent report from Investors in People (IIP) has clear findings:

🔹Employees value flexible working hours and a positive workplace culture much more than wellness perks like gym memberships or wellbeing apps.
🔹90% of employees who were offered flexible working felt it was the most crucial driver of their wellbeing.
🔹59% claimed they had never used their gym membership.

It's crucial for businesses to directly communicate with their employees to identify the most valued benefits. Surveying and regular check-ins can ensure that the perks provided truly meet the needs of the workforce.

💼 North West Business Confidence Rebounds! ⬆️

Exciting news for the North West! Business confidence has risen by 20 points in August, reaching 53%, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Business Barometer. This recovery follows a dip in July when confidence levels had fallen by 10 points.

Furthermore, a significant 45% of businesses expect to increase their staff over the next year, a 25-point rise from last month. This is a promising sign for both our local economy and job market.

🌟 HR Must Prepare for the 'Big Shift' 🌟

Changes are coming to the world of payroll! As of 2026, payrolling benefits will become mandatory, signalling the end of P11D forms as we know them. HR leaders must be ready to adapt and embrace these changes for a smoother transition.

The government's push to digitalise taxation and reporting is driving this shift. Payrolling benefits will streamline the process, reduce workload, and improve payroll accuracy. While this is a significant move towards digital and real-time information, it also means HR departments have less than two years to set up new systems and get their teams prepared.

We are pleased to announce that today marks Marsden's 8-year anniversary at Heyland 🥳
Over the past 2 years Jo has worked hard to single-handedly developed the Marketing, Procurement and Operational desk for the business and has developed some excellent working relationships with our existing clients but also brought in some new business in the process.

It's a pleasure to have Jo as part of the team and is always up for an office challenge when the opportunity arises (having recently beat Jack at the broom challenge!) In her spare time Jo is still a very keen runner and a bit of a chocaholic on the quiet 🍫
