This week marks Community Rail Week 2026, celebrating the incredible role community rail plays in connecting people, supporting local communities, and making rail travel more inclusive and accessible for everyone!

This year’s theme, ‘Journeys for All’ highlights the importance of breaking down barriers and ensuring rail continues to bring people and places together across Britain.

We’re proud to support the wider rail network across the South West and South Wales, helping keep infrastructure safe, reliable and ready for the communities that rely on it every day. Behind every journey is a huge network of people working to maintain, improve and support the railway, from frontline operational teams to safety-critical staff working in live rail environments.

Community rail plays a vital role in encouraging sustainable travel, strengthening local connections and creating opportunities for people across the country, and it’s great to see the industry celebrating the positive impact rail continues to have on everyday lives.

So here’s to the people, partnerships and projects that help keep the railway moving for everyone!

Working in warm weather doesn’t just take a toll on the body it affects alertness, concentration, and reaction times too! 👀

When you’re operating heavy machinery, working trackside, or even just moving between jobs in the heat, fatigue can quietly creep in and that’s when mistakes are most likely to happen.

Here’s how we’re encouraging our teams to stay one step ahead of fatigue during the heatwave this week:

💤 Prioritise rest: Make sure you’re well rested before heading to site. Even mild tiredness can impair judgement.

🌡️ Watch for heat and fatigue: High temperatures increase the risk of dehydration and exhaustion, both of which can lead to reduced awareness and slower reflexes.

🗣️ Speak up: If you or a teammate feels fatigued or unwell, stop and report it. Your safety comes first!

Fatigue isn’t just about feeling tired, it’s a serious safety factor on the tracks!

As temperatures continue to rise across the UK, working safely in hot conditions becomes even more important, especially in safety-critical rail environments where PPE is essential at all times.

While PPE protects against site hazards, it can also make working in the heat more demanding, increasing the risk of dehydration, fatigue and heat stress if teams aren’t careful, which is why we encourage our teams to take extra precautions during warmer weather, including:

💧 Staying hydrated throughout shifts

🧢 Taking regular breaks where possible

🌡 Monitoring for signs of heat exhaustion and fatigue

👷 Wearing the correct PPE properly, without compromising safety

🤝 Looking out for teammates and speaking up if something doesn’t feel right

Hot weather can impact concentration, alertness and overall wellbeing which is why planning, communication and welfare checks are so important during these warmer working conditions.

Safety always comes first, whatever the weather!

We believe that delivery is only as strong as the people behind it, which is why our culture is built around safety, support, and high standards.

We place real importance on looking after our teams, not just deploying them, and that means:

💤 Fatigue management: We recognise the risks that come with long shifts, demanding environments, and early starts. Monitoring fatigue and encouraging open conversations helps keep our teams alert and safe on site.

🤝 Regular welfare checks: We stay connected with our workforce throughout their placements, ensuring wellbeing is supported, and any issues are picked up early.

🎓 Training and competence: We ensure every individual is fully qualified, competent, and prepared for the role they are stepping into because safety-critical environments demand nothing less.

For us, these aren’t tick-box exercises; they’re part of how we operate every day because when people are supported properly, projects are delivered safely, reliably, and to the highest standard.

Today marks ‘World Day for Safety and Health at Work’, a reminder that safety isn’t just about physical risks on site, but also about how work is designed, managed and supported every day.

The psychosocial working environment plays a major role in how people experience their work. Factors like workload, working time, role clarity, communication, support, and fair processes all influence not only performance, but overall safety, health and wellbeing.

When these factors are not managed effectively, they can become real workplace hazards, just as significant as physical, chemical or biological risks. That’s why a prevention focused approach is so important, looking at how work is organised at every level: from individual roles, to day-to-day management, through to wider company practices and procedures.

We take health and safety extremely seriously, whether it’s on-site or behind the scenes, we’re committed to creating an environment where our people feel supported, informed and able to carry out their roles safely and effectively.

Safe delivery isn’t just about systems and processes, it’s about the people!

Did you know that more than 1.7 billion passenger journeys are made on the UK rail network every year!

That’s millions of people relying on the railway every single day - commuting to work, travelling for business, visiting family, and keeping the country connected.

Behind every one of those journeys is a great deal of planning, maintenance and on-the-ground support to keep the network safe, reliable and moving efficiently. From infrastructure upgrades to ongoing civils and safety-critical works, it takes a coordinated effort from thousands of skilled professionals across the industry.

And we’re proud to play our part by supplying managed contingent labour and safety-critical support across the South West and South Wales. Our teams work in live operational environments, helping ensure the network continues to perform safely under constant demand, because when the railway runs smoothly, everything else can too!

We’re proud to have recently supported Morgan Sindall Infrastructure on the successful refurbishment of the River Plym Overbridge, delivered through the CP7 framework for Network Rail.

This major milestone saw essential strengthening and renewal works completed on this vital structure along the Plymouth–Totnes route, ensuring it is fit for today’s faster, heavier and more frequent rail services.

For this blockade, Forza Rail provided full safety-critical support around the clock, supplying experienced ESs and COSSs to keep operations safe, compliant and efficiently managed throughout.

Our teams played a key role in maintaining safe systems of work during a highly intensive possession period, supporting delivery teams working under tight programme constraints and live rail conditions.

It’s always a privilege to support projects of this scale, where planning, precision and collaboration across the supply chain are critical to successful delivery. A huge well done to everyone involved in delivering this complex scheme safely and to programme! 👏
