Will eVTOLs solve congestion?

One of the challenges UAM manufacturers set out to solve was congestion in large cities.

In cities such as London, Cologne and Amsterdam, drivers spend more than 50 hours a year in congestion.

Adding another dimension to short-range travel is in the air, removing drivers from the road whilst still allowing them to commute to work.

Our latest article asks whether eVTOLs are the answer to this problem.

What are your thoughts?

Getting a job is an incredibly competitive process, particularly in niche fields.

Candidates must do everything possible to be visible, both before and during the actual recruitment process.

Candidates should constantly be thinking about how to stand out from the competition, in the right ways, of course.

Our latest article outlines the three areas of contact you should focus on:

1. Initial contact
2. Interviews
3. Offer process

Standing out from the crowd during recruitment is all about doing things by the book, but with a bit of flair.

You have to be the best at being the best and remain open and honest throughout.

Doing so will reflect well on you (and your recruiter) in the client’s eyes.

If you need help cementing your recruitment process, KDC is here for you.

We are expert recruiters in the field of engineering, so know what boxes you must tick to stand out.

Earth observation satellites are critical in disaster planning.

The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano erupted on the 15th of January, 2021.

Described as more powerful than an atomic bomb, it sent ash clouds up to 55 kilometres into the air and produced a devastating tsunami wave.

The last volcanic eruption of this magnitude was Mount Pinatubo in 1991, but our observation technology has changed significantly since then.

So, what role did Earth observation satellites play in the Tonga eruption, and what will it teach us about future disasters?

Is clean fuel the answer to environmental concerns?

Otherwise known as carbon-neutral fuel, it produces no carbon footprint or net greenhouse gas emissions.

Battery-powered transport is en vogue in 2022.

However, the electricity used to power these vehicles are only as clean as its dirtiest source.

eVTOLs will, on average, use more energy than an electric vehicle.

In 2020, renewable energy made up around 36 per cent of total energy usage in the UK.

What can companies do to ensure the vehicles they produce are helping toward reaching the net-zero target in the UK?

Hydrogen in Aviation.

We are seeing an increasing number of manufacturers adopt hydrogen fuel technology in aerospace.

OEMs are looking to increase range in aircraft over the next few years.

Current travel range is inhibited by the challenges in storage that the industry currently faces.

A large quantity of investment has been made by the UK Government in the past two years.

Manufacturers such as Airbus and FlyZero are leading the way with significant projects to fly the aerospace industry into the future.

What are the major challenges holding back hydrogen from taking off?

From radar to duct tape, the military has influenced the technology we use every day.

The US Airforce indicated as recently as 2020 that it was looking to implement eVTOL as soon as possible.

The main reason for this is the lower maintenance and autonomy that the technology brings.

One of the barriers to the successful implementation of eVTOL is battery technology.

As the world moves to a more ecologically sustainable future, current VTOL technology will be inevitably replaced by electrical aviation.

What do you think the challenges are?

Should It Be a Legal Requirement for Companies to Post Salary Ranges in Job Ads?

New York City recently introduced a legal requirement for companies to post salary range when advertising a job.

There isn’t a law in the UK currently but, should there be?

As recruiters, we know wages are crucial in deciding whether a job is worth applying for.

How often have you scrolled past a job because it didn’t list the salary?

The Airbus A350F Will Bring Fuel Efficiency to the Freight Market.

Airbus announced the A350F at the Dubai Airshow in November.

It is a freight adoption of the popular A350 commercial model.

The aircraft has 40 per cent lower fuel burn than its direct competitor, which translates to greater range and lower operating costs.

The A300 – its current freight model – is the best-selling freight plane of all time.

Why is Airbus planning to disrupt its own market?

Is industry experience imperative for a career in Aerospace Engineering?

The past two years have seen a shift in the specialisms among engineers.

This change is partly due to the movement in demand from the pandemic.

The industry is fast-paced, which is the main differentiator from other sectors.

AI and renewable technology advances have exponentially increased the work available in aerospace over the past year.

Companies now are looking more at transferrable skills from other engineering areas than industry experience.

With commercial aerospace arguably set to fully recover this year, is it time to consider work in this sector?

Despite an industry shift towards a skills shortage, there is still good reason for candidates to stay ahead of the recruitment curve. As we approach the end of the year, it is worth maintaining momentum in preparation for the hiring booms that typically accompany Q1.

So, what can candidates do to stay ahead of the recruitment curve?

In September 2021, the UK government announced its ten-year National AI Strategy to become a world leader in the sector. Considering the UK private technology sector received £13.5 billion in investment between January and June of this year, it seems like an obvious move.

Considering the ubiquity of AI across most sectors, it is worth considering the impact this strategy could have on the British engineering industry.
