Earlier this week, new legislation came into effect regarding what is classed as regulated activity when working with children.
Up until September 1st, volunteers (and in some cases paid workers) weren't considered to be working in regulated activity, if they were appropriately supervised by a staff member who was. This was known as the 'supervision exemption'.
This is no longer the case.
Any individual, volunteer or otherwise, who meets the eligibility requirements for an Enhanced DBS Check for working with children is required to have a barred list search included.
This means you may need to review the DBS information you have in place for people working in your organisation.
If you work for a school or college, you can use your DfE account to run a standalone children's barred list search, without having to run a new DBS Check.
