We see a lot of CVs, and the ones that get missed usually aren't from people short on experience. They're just hard to read quickly.

Most hospitality CVs tell us where someone worked. The ones that get shortlisted tell us much more.

A Sous Chef at an 80 cover bistro and A Sous Chef at a 250 cover hotel are two completely different jobs, but on paper they can look identical. If you've ever wondered why your CV didn't get a response, it's often just that the reader couldn't picture the experience.

Five things that make a hospitality CV easier to say yes to.

1. Put the numbers in. Covers per service, size of the brigade, room count, sections you ran. Two or three figures per role does more than a paragraph of description.

2. Say what kind of venue it was. Four AA rosettes, 120 bedrooms, a wet-led pub, a contract catering site. The name might not travel outside your area, but the type tells us plenty.

3. List your certificates with the dates. Level 2 or 3 food safety, allergen training, personal licence, DBS. Easy to forget, and having them on there can bring a start date forward.

4. Add a few words about gaps. Seasonal contract ended, site closed, moved cities. Gaps in this industry are completely normal, and a short note stops anyone wondering.

5. Say what you're looking for now. Full-time or part-time, temporary or permanent, how far you're happy to travel, whether you drive, whether live-in works for you. It saves you from being sent roles that were never going to be a match.

These are quick changes, and it means your CV can do the talking for you rather than waiting on a conversation.

KSB Comms Day 2026 ✨

Once a year the whole team downs tools and comes together to look back at the year and look ahead to what's next.
