Listen as Kat explains why you should choose James Ray Recruitment.

Big enough to work across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Small enough to actually care.

We're a boutique agency and for us it means something specific. It means schools deal with people who know them, not call centres. It means candidates have a consultant who picks up the phone, not a faceless inbox. It means decisions are made by people who actually understand the patch they're working in.

We work around your requirements, not ours. Schools across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire choose us because we adapt to how they like to work, not the other way around. No rigid processes. No box-ticking. Just genuine partnership.

For candidates, that same approach means real support to find the right fit. Not just any school. The best school for you. The one that matches your strengths, your style, your career goals and your daily commute. We take the time to understand what makes a good placement for the person, not just the paper match.

The result is happier candidates, longer placements, and schools that come back because what we do actually works.

If I was a teacher who hadn't updated my CV in five years, here's where I'd start today.
We know how busy teachers are. The days fly by, the weeks turn into terms, and before you know it you've been in the same job for years.

If this sounds like you, the good news is you've spent that time building up real experience, training and CPD hours (you know it's true). The bad news is none of that is captured anywhere outside your own head.

However, the moment an opportunity comes up, whether it's a promotion, a move, a maternity cover, a leadership step, you'll want your CV ready that day, not next month.

A strong CV opens doors. A blank one closes them before you've even noticed.

So start today but don't try to write the perfect CV. Just open a blank document and start a working bank of everything you've done.

⭐ List your main role and what it actually involves day to day.
⭐ Add the extras. The clubs you run, the trips you've led, the year groups you've covered, the subjects you've stepped up to teach, the mentoring you've done. Yes, all of them.
⭐ Flick through your diary for the last few terms. What courses have you been on? What inset days made you think? What training themes have stuck with you? Get them all down.
⭐ Note the small wins too. The intervention group that finally clicked. The student who went from struggling to thriving. ⭐ The trip that ran smoothly because you planned it.

Having a bank is important because when you eventually do need a CV, you're not starting from scratch and trying to remember 2022 from memory. You're editing, not creating.

That's the difference between a CV that takes an afternoon and one that takes three weeks of stress.

Even if you're not moving anywhere right now, your future self will thank you.

Listen as Kate squashes the misconceptions schools have when working with an agency, especially around the quality of candidates.

The assumption can be that agency candidates are a 'step below' permanent staff. The reality is the opposite.

Every candidate we place goes through a rigorous safeguarding process. Enhanced DBS, full reference checks, identity verification, qualifications confirmed, right to work established. Nothing is taken on trust.

Kate also shares why recruitment has turned out to be more rewarding than she expected. The candidates who feel listened to. The schools that keep coming back. The placements that just work.

She's good at her job because she cares about doing it properly.

We're proud to partner with Tigers Trust in the Community.

Tigers Trust does extraordinary work across Hull and East Yorkshire, using the power of sport and the reach of the Hull City badge to support young people, families and communities who need it most. Education programmes, mental health support, disability sport, holiday activities, community outreach. The list is long and the impact is real.

We've seen up close the difference their team makes, and we wanted to do more than just admire it from a distance. Partnering with them means we get to play a small part in something much bigger than recruitment, and we couldn't be prouder.

Working together to support positive futures and stronger communities. That's what this partnership is about.

Huge thanks to everyone at Tigers Trust for what you do every single day.

Meet Kat, Branch Manager at our Beverley office.

Kat has been in recruitment for ten years, and in this video she reflects on how much the industry has changed in that time. Not just the technology and the processes, although those have shifted hugely, but the attitudes around supply work itself.

A decade ago, supply teaching was often seen as a fall-back. Something you did between permanent roles. Today, that conversation looks very different. More and more teachers are choosing supply for the flexibility, the variety, and the control it gives them over their own working lives. It's a positive choice, not a compromise.

Kat has watched that shift happen up close, and she's been part of changing the conversation locally. Her perspective is one of the things that makes the team at Beverley what it is.

We're proud to be a DfE Framework Supplier on the Government Commercial Agency framework. Here's what that actually means.

For schools, it means we've been vetted and approved against strict government standards on quality, compliance and value. You can work with us knowing we meet the requirements that matter.

For candidates, it means you're being placed by an agency that's held to a higher bar. Better processes, better protection, better partnerships with the schools we work with.

Not every recruiter can say this. We can.

Looking for your next role in education? Drop us a message and let's talk.

SQE2 July registration closes Wednesday 10 June. If you've passed SQE1 and haven't booked in yet, here's what to do right now.

⭐ Log in to your SRA account and check your eligibility status is showing correctly. This catches people out more often than you'd expect.

⭐Confirm your Qualifying Work Experience is up to date. If anything is outstanding, get it logged with your employer this week, not the night before the deadline.

⭐Decide on your test centre and book early. Spaces fill quickly and the location you want might not be available if you leave it until the last minute.

⭐Check your assessment fee is paid in full. The SRA will not process a late or partial payment.

⭐Have your ID documents ready and matching the name on your account. Mismatches cause real headaches at check-in on the day.

If you're sitting SQE2 in July and starting to think about what comes next, that conversation is worth having before results land in November. Drop us a message.
