Working in the Defence Industry
A career in defence can be highly diverse, offering exciting opportunities across land, sea and aviation sectors. M&E specialises in defence contracts and, as a subcontractor for the US Military, provides mechanics with opportunities to work on advanced military technology.

Continuous Learning and Development
Defence is a fast-moving industry where technology is constantly evolving. Whether you are a recent graduate or an experienced engineer, ongoing training and development are essential. Workers often gain new skills throughout their careers, creating opportunities for progression and specialisation.

Many M&E contracts are based in Poland, a country recognised for engineering excellence. This gives contractors the chance to learn from experts working at the forefront of defence technology.

Why Poland?
Over the past decade, Poland has undergone one of the most significant military expansions in Europe. Around a decade ago, the country spent just over 2% of its GDP on defence, in line with NATO. By contrast, in 2025–2026 Poland is allocating roughly 4.5–4.8% of GDP making it the highest relative defence spender in NATO and in absolute terms - spending has surged from around $15 billion in 2022 to approximately $55 billion in 2026.

Diverse Career Opportunities
The defence sector attracts people from a wide range of backgrounds. Opportunities exist for graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as those who have gained practical experience through the military or hands-on training.

This blend of knowledge and experience creates an innovative and rewarding working environment.

Working with Advanced Technology
Modern defence relies on cutting-edge technology, creating opportunities to work on complex military vehicles and equipment. Mechanics may be involved in maintaining and supporting assets such as M1 tanks, Humvees and Joint Light Tactical Vehicles.

As technology develops, existing equipment requires upgrades and maintenance while new solutions are continually being created. This ongoing demand makes defence an attractive sector for skilled professionals.

Getting Started
Success in the defence industry often requires flexibility and a willingness to work overseas. Contracting can be an excellent way to gain experience across different roles and identify the career path that suits you best.

M&E Global specialises in overseas contract opportunities, helping candidates develop their skills, advance their careers and find roles that match both their experience and values.

Thinking About Working Abroad? Here's What You Need to Know

Working overseas can be a great way to experience a new culture, develop your career, and earn a good income. However, careful planning is essential to ensure a smooth transition.

Choose the Right Destination
The country you choose will influence your job opportunities, quality of life, and how easily you can settle in. Research potential destinations thoroughly to understand their advantages and challenges. Germany and Poland, for example, have become increasingly popular due to their strong quality of life, access to wider European travel, and growing employment opportunities.

Assess Your Skills and Eligibility
Before applying, check whether your skills match the demand in your chosen country. Some positions, particularly contractor roles, may require security clearance from your home country, so ensure you meet all requirements before applying. You will likely also need a legal right to work in the location rather that you want to move to, rather than relying on a company sponsoring you for a work visa that is then tied to your employment with them.

Understand the Job Market
Opportunities vary by country and industry. Some skills are in higher demand in certain locations, making research essential. With more than 25 years of recruitment experience in maintenance, supply, logistics, and transportation, and over 900 personnel deployed worldwide, M&E Global can help identify the best opportunities for your background and career goals.

Consider Family Commitments
If you plan to relocate with your family, there are several important factors to review:
- Health insurance
- Visa requirements
- Valid passports
- School options and entry requirements
- Relocating pets
- Local vaccination, quarantine, and travel regulations

Families may also need to consider childcare or education changes for children. M&E Global supports candidates throughout the relocation process and can help navigate these challenges.

Language Considerations
Learning basic phrases can make daily life easier and help you integrate into a new environment. However, many roles facilitated by M&E Global do not require fluency in a new language.

Access Ongoing Support
Starting a job in a new country can feel daunting. M&E Global provides support before and after deployment, including:
- A dedicated consultant
- Access to an online jobs portal
- Expert guidance on visas, relocation, and practical matters
- Comprehensive pre-deployment briefings covering topics such as banking, travel, and what to pack

Start Your Overseas Career
Relocating abroad is a major life decision, but the right support can make the process much easier. M&E Global helps candidates find suitable positions and navigate every stage of the move, whether in Germany, Poland, or elsewhere.

Contact M&E Global to speak with a relocation expert and explore overseas opportunities that match your skills and goals

Maximising your career as an HGV mechanic

Whether you're working in a permanent role, considering contract work, leaving the forces for civilian employment, or looking to gain additional training, there are plenty of opportunities to develop your career as an HGV mechanic.

HGV mechanic roles are varied, challenging and rewarding. From servicing and inspections to fault diagnosis and repairs, no two days are the same. You may work on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including generators, compressors and excavators, while developing highly sought-after technical skills.

Five Ways to Maximise Your Career as an HGV Mechanic

Build the Right Skills
To progress, you'll need strong knowledge of HGV systems, maintenance, inspections and repairs. Employers also value transferable skills such as:
- Problem solving
- Communication
- Organisation
- Reliability
- Teamwork

Make sure your CV clearly highlights both your technical expertise and soft skills.

Gain Hands-On Experience
Practical experience is one of the fastest ways to develop your career. Contract roles can expose you to different vehicles, equipment and working environments, helping you broaden your expertise quickly.

Because contracts vary in length and scope, they can provide opportunities to learn new skills, work with different employers and gain experience across a wide range of machinery.

Invest in Qualifications
Qualifications such as a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance or a Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Engineering can enhance your prospects and support career progression.

If you're moving from the armed forces or changing sectors, additional training can also help you transfer your skills into new roles and industries.

Be Strategic About Career Growth
Planning your career development is key. Contract work allows you to choose assignments that align with your long-term goals, whether that's gaining experience on specific vehicles, developing specialist skills or working with leading employers.

By carefully selecting roles, you can steadily build a stronger CV and a more diverse skill set.

Work on Different Equipment
Expanding your experience across multiple vehicle and equipment types can significantly increase your career opportunities.

Working on a variety of machinery, including light and heavy vehicles, tracked vehicles and support equipment, helps you develop specialist knowledge and remain competitive in the industry.

For those interested in overseas contracting, there may also be opportunities to work with advanced military and defence equipment, providing valuable experience that is difficult to gain elsewhere.

Take the Next Step
Successful HGV mechanics continuously develop their skills, gain varied experience and seek opportunities to work on new technologies. By investing in training, choosing roles strategically and broadening your expertise, you can maximise your career potential and unlock exciting new opportunities.

Six Signs a Career in Supply and Logistics Is Right for You

The UK and the EU logistics industry only employs millions of people and offers a wide range of career opportunities. Whether you're starting out, transitioning from the forces, or seeking a new direction, supply and logistics can provide a rewarding and varied career path.

https://www.mneglobal.com//blog/2026/08/six-signs-that-a-career-in-supply-and-logistics-is-right-for-you

You Can Think on Your Feet
Supply and logistics professionals face challenges every day, from delays and shortages to changing priorities. Success often depends on being able to assess situations quickly, make informed decisions and solve problems under pressure.

If you're calm, practical and able to find solutions when things don't go to plan, this industry could be a great fit.

You're Flexible
Flexibility is a key requirement in logistics. Many roles involve shift work rather than traditional office hours, and employees are often expected to support different tasks when needed.

Being open to relocation or overseas opportunities can also help you broaden your experience and access a wider range of roles.

You Work Well in a Team
Supply chains rely on effective collaboration. From warehouse staff and drivers to supervisors and managers, everyone plays a part in keeping operations running smoothly.

Strong communication skills, teamwork and the ability to work alongside people from different departments are highly valued across the industry.

You Don't Want a Desk Job
If the idea of spending every day in an office doesn't appeal, logistics offers a more hands-on working environment.

The sector is fast-paced, varied and constantly evolving. No two days are exactly the same, and advances in technology continue to create new ways of working and new opportunities to develop skills.

You're Ambitious
Supply and logistics offer clear progression opportunities for people who are willing to work hard and learn.

With roles ranging from warehouse operations and forklift driving to distribution, planning and management, there are opportunities at every level. Many professionals progress quickly by gaining experience, developing new skills and taking on greater responsibility.

You Love to Travel
Logistics is a global industry, creating opportunities to work in different locations and countries. For those interested in contract work, overseas assignments can provide valuable experience while allowing you to explore new places and cultures.

Short-term and long-term contracts can help you build your career while enjoying the benefits of working internationally.

Is Logistics Right for You?
If you're adaptable, enjoy problem-solving, work well with others and want a career that offers variety, progression and potential travel opportunities, supply and logistics could be the ideal choice. With opportunities across a wide range of roles and experience levels, it's an industry that rewards hard work, flexibility and ambition.

12/08/2026

Made by Sikorsky, the UH-60 Black Hawk is one of the world’s most respected military helicopters. Entering service with the US Army in 1978, it serves as a front-line, multi-mission utility aircraft used for air assault, air cavalry, aeromedical evacuation, logistics, search and rescue, command and control, electronic warfare, armed es**rt and executive transport.

https://lnkd.in/eKRTKfxx

Often described as the “workhorse” of Army aviation, the Black Hawk has accumulated more than nine million fleet flight hours. More than 4,000 aircraft are in operation across over 25 countries, demonstrating its reliability, versatility and long-term value.

Background
The Black Hawk was originally developed to replace the Bell UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) as the US Army’s tactical transport helicopter. Designed to be simple, robust and dependable, it has adapted over the decades to meet changing operational requirements. Variants and upgrades have expanded its capability to include medical evacuation, special operations support and mine-laying missions.

Continuous technology improvements have enhanced performance, reliability and maintainability. Planned upgrades, including the Improved Turbine Engine, are expected to keep the Black Hawk in service until at least 2054.

Performance and Capabilities
The helicopter’s primary role is transporting troops and supporting military operations. It can carry 11 combat-equipped air assault troops and transport a 105mm howitzer with ammunition. Powered by two General Electric T700-GE-700 turboshaft engines, it can reach speeds of up to 163 mph.

The Black Hawk is designed for survivability and operational flexibility. It features a crash-resistant, self-sealing fuel system, armour protection capable of withstanding hits from 23mm shells, and armoured seats for both pilot and co-pilot. It can be equipped with door-mounted machine guns, carry external loads via a cargo hook, and transport personnel, supplies or equipment internally. Additional options include laser threat warning systems and landing skis for Arctic operations.

Crew and Capacity
A standard UH-60A crew consists of a pilot, co-pilot and crew chief. Depending on configuration, it can carry up to 20 lightly equipped personnel. The aircraft can transport 11 fully equipped combat soldiers in an assault configuration, up to 14 troops in a maximum-capacity arrangement, or be reconfigured for medical evacuation with four full-sized litters.

Working on a Black Hawk
For aviation engineers and mechanics, working on the Black Hawk is often considered a highly desirable career opportunity. Contractors typically require extensive aircraft knowledge, at least three years of aviation maintenance experience, around 12 months’ experience on the Black Hawk platform, and up-to-date technical skills.

Let us know your opinions of this aircraft in the comments below.

Flight connections are frequent and convenient, making regular trips back to the UK easy. Working patterns are also familiar, often with shorter Fridays that can help support weekend travel.
